i have 100,xxx mp3's @ 256 or greater in my collection. problem is, almost nothing after 2008. (had a call center of people all dump their music onto an external hard drive for sharing) 9,xxx complete cd's worth of music.

So i use spotify for new stuff. May try apple music just so it's all in a single app.

I basically started letting my 30,000 or so mp3s just collect dust. Google Play Music is just easier. It has the vast majority of the albums I own and it lets me upload the ones they don't have - so they essentially become part of my google play experience. Apple music is similar in this regard.

the key is smart play lists...

Of those 100k, i have maybe 10k that i like and have rated. I have a whole set of smart playlists that constantly update to keep music cycling through.

3 start songs, can only play 1x every 12 months, 4 star 1x every 6 months, 5 start 1x every 3 months.

They all roll up to a master playlist that constantly updates.

yep, I went through the effort of rating all my music and using smart playlists to only play 4 and 5 star songs (also had some genre and year separation in there).

Not sure I would want to limit the playing of my 4 and 5 star songs like you do. And if a song is rated 1 or 2 stars it is something I never want to hear again.

My new reality is though, I don't need a 5 star rating system. I either like a song enough to put it on a playlist or I don't. Which is why I really like the 'thumbs up' system in google play music. 'Thumbs up' a song and it automatically gets added to a thumbs up playlist.

I don't even care about the genre anymore - if I like the song I want to hear it. Don't care if I have Madonna following up Wolfmother - though some of my friends just smile and nod.

I can't imagine going back and assigning a rating to every song in my library. That said, I rarely even add songs to my library anymore, basically with the TU playlist, the google curated playlists/stations and being able to easily search all of google play music for a given song/artist, the library concept has become antiquated. imo.

Things like say...."Beat It" from mike jackson. it's rated a 3. decent song, but i don't want to here it more than once a year.

1's are problems i delete. 2's are just songs i don't like.

with this method, i can put on the master play list at any time in my home or car and know i will always have decent music.

It's (Apple Music ) gonna be available for Android later this year.

Apple, is W/O a doubt what everyone imitates.

Apple Music will become the Standard Music Portal, eventually.

I mostly use spotify for playlists like top 40 EDM or etc. I haven't updated my phone yet to see if apple music offers things like that but spotify does a great job with different channels during the day. Acoustic afternoon or electric mornings or etc throughout the day.

During pi day I picked up several years of xbox music for 31.41 per year. Think I picked up three years or so...

I love xbox music so far.

I have access to an iPhone, but I'd rather use my windows phone since it has a much better camera and a 128 GB microsd card. iPhone needs more space for music.. I can't stream very well in the city (metro, etc).

So I'm still a bit confused on getting spotify through the car infotainment system. Can someone clarify for me please. I have a 2015 premium, fully loaded with all the electronic goods. I'm not sure how I can get the spotify app one the MFT/Sirrus or whatever it is.

You can do it using bluetooth... connecting your phone to the car and streaming that way....
