S550 Purchase

Hey, in need of some wisdom.

I bought a 2017 S550 GT Premium w/ 40,000 miles, I have always wanted a Mustang GT, but was never able to afford one due to being too young in the military, and selling my race burner soon after having kids for something more family-oriented.

That being said, I’m not home I’m currently overseas, and just want to know based on your experienced Ford Mustang Owners, what are some of the things I should be looking for regarding the purchase of a used S550.

I purchased the vehicle from a dealership.

The vehicle has a C&L Racer CAI, which needs a tune configuration to operate properly apparently.

it has no Oil Catch Can, but folks keep saying is a must-have.

and that’s all that I can see based on the engine bay and interior.

Great feeling to purchase a vehicle you have wanted. Since you have already noticed a engine mod you most likely purchased a vehicle that was male owned, and most likely cared for.

If the battery has not been replaced since new, put that in your budget.
If it is a manual clutch spring popular upgrade

Oil catch can, do you drive the car hard all the time? They are not necessary, if they were Ford would have manufactured car with one installed.

Maybe some research to find previous owner for tuner information, post photos being from Carolinas someone may recognize car.

I don't drive hard and my oil catch can always has some in it after a few weeks. like it there instead of my intake manifold.

I don’t know how you made that jump to conclusions. I know many guys who abuse the crap out of their cars.

Definitely recommend looking at the Carfax and any other vehicle history for maintence records, but since you already bought the car...

That's quite an assumption right there!
Personally I'm always leary of modified cars without first hand knowledge, or at least extensive documentation, of what and how it was done. My personal experience with performance mods is they're done for more power so the car can be beat on even harder. Give me a bone stock car anytime over one with unknown/ questionable mods.

Also, hard to guess from your post what “wisdom” you are looking for.

The CARFAX is clean, maintenance records are not the greatest, just three services appear on the CARFAX and as far as history goes it belonged to someone that couldn't afford it.

By wisdom I mean:
should I flush all the fluids? are there any items I should feel for, or listen to?
should I take it to a dyno tune? should I replace the CAI that needs a tune with one that doesn't since I do not have the tune application?

Them types of things, I haven't made mods since I was 19 and I never made that car work as one unit, all I did was add and add. This is my first Ford and I just want to know if at 40,000 miles should I be expecting anything or the things I should look regarding possible problems.

I’d change the oil for sure, and probably check the plugs. Probably just has a canned tune on it more than likely. Did it come with the tuner too or you just know it has been tuned?

It did not came with the runner, and I’m just assuming it was tuned due to the CAI requirements
