I guess i missed the manifold shoot out by VMP when it came out in august and just found it a few minutes ago:

Has anyone done a similiar shoot out for the cold airs (especially since it looks like there is no reason to look at manifolds for my 2018).

I have not seen one, probably because there is a lot less variance between CAIs as compared to intake manifolds. Not only that, but the power delivery and curve is dictated by the head and manifold runners.

TL: DW, The ported 18 intake is the best buy which is on par with the CJ for a lot less money.

The CAI debate is endless. The difference being marginal between many of them, but the biggest issue I believe in my opinion is open versus closed box. The intake temperatures can vary drastically between the two. The open intakes do recover really fast which is great, but they also get extremely hot while idle which can pull timing. I prefer my closed box style with my Velossatech big mouth. I feel like I get the best of both worlds from air flow to under hood temps.

They also vary in how they are tuned. Some people have run into issues with MAF turbulence with a Flex tune as someone reported with the Steeda closed box one.

Only helpful post have really seen between two diff threads on the subject.

I am aware of the issues with the steeda which is why i didn't buy one when they were on sale for black friday. With my very open cervini grill (no active shutters and no closed holes) my intake temps read about the same as ambient most days which is impressive.

I was hoping to just get one of the CAI's which have the custom maf which look real good, require no flash tune and add about 20hp but the posts in the other thread are stating the manufacturers claims about the hp increases using a custom maf sensor or BS...

On an 18' esp, you won't see much gain vs. OE

, On an 18' , you are not going to see much if any gain from a no tune CAI. The 2018 OEM is greatly enlarged vs. the 15-17 OEM box. The inlet diameter is pretty large for factory.

Yea I've been told if you just want a little power you can skip the box and just tune it.
