Hi guys, used the search function and very little came up.

I've found an Air Raid CAI at the right price and am interested in a few things before I pull the trigger.

1. Does it increase the induction growl of the engine?
2. Is there ANY benefit in having it? I'll be using a Lund tune shortly, so I'd be using it without the reducer.

Please note: The ultimate goal is to go Whipple, this is just an interim solution. I wasn't even going to do it at all, but for the price, I almost can't afford not to.
I'm not looking to spend good money on a CAI that I'll be parting with in the next 12 months, so no other CAIs are being considered here.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that the car will be running 1 7/8" headers and 3" cat back. Not sure if this REALLY matters in the scheme of CAI usefulness...
Cheers

If it's cheap enough sure.

1)Not that I noticed. I took the aoundtube out so not sure if it would be more with it in. You can hear it suck air with the hood popped though like all the others.

2) on a bone stock car with just the airaid dry filter cai and the ARH catback I put down 409/390 SAE at the wheels. Stock cars were around 380-390 that day. I dyno'd higher than cars with the steeda and jlt intakes at that dyno day, some even tuned. Maybe it's just my car, idk. But it was consistently more powerful.

I'd say go for it.

Save your money towards the Whipple.
Yeah, I know, but at $300 AUD (circa $215 USD) delivered to my doorstep, I can easily re-sell or just toss it in the bin when I'm done with it.
Appreciate the advice though.

it's not going to add any additional noise with the top on since it's an enclosed intake. since it's an enclosed intake the intake air temperature is right in line with a stock intake. with the insert in there it doesn't really add any horsepower but it can be Dremeled or cut out and with a custom tune the horsepower numbers should be right around that of what a jlt intake is. for me an enclosed intake was really my only option since I live in a hot climate. if you can get it for cheap enough why not.

Thanks Kahboom, yes, hot climate here also. Typically 105-120 during summer.
The price is definitely right, ALL intakes are expensive here in Oz due to cost of shipping the suckers over here. Not a cheap exercise.
This one is about half what we'd normally pay.
The catch is that it's not likely to do much for me by the sound of it..

Like they said, it's enclosed, you wont hear a thing, especially with exhaust. I know I didn't. JLT if you want to hear it.

Search Airaid instead. I can definitely hear mine under certain circumstances (before exhaust overpowers it), just not overly much so. I love the fact it is closed since I removed my hoodliner (don't need to worry about tight fit from the open box).

I have a Steeda CAI. It does increase the intake noise a little. I had a 93 tune at the same time as the CAI added, so hard to say if it's just the tune or the combo.

If you really are planning on going Whipple, I'd say forget the CAI for now. There are plenty of people running stock air boxes with a tune and making power. Drop a K&N in there instead and save the money for the Whipple.

Airaid you won't hear much, JLT you will. I've had both.
