never knew there was a difference sorry. They were what I remember from driving in US
Yep, US gallons are a smidge smaller so if you get say 20 to a US gallon, that translates to 22/23ish to a UK gallon.

Good god man, you're not going to feed it the cheap stuff are you?! ;)
The car is designed to run on US 87. So, somehow, I think our lower ethanol, higher octane fuel from the supermarket will be like a dream come true to our Coyotes.

Has anyone managed to get any information regarding running costs for the S550?

I asked my local dealer at the launch event, however he did not have much information to hand.

The figures I have so far:

V8

  • MPG 20.9
  • Road Tax ÂŁ505
  • Servicing ? every ?/?

Ecoboost

  • MPG 35.3
  • Road Tax ÂŁ225
  • Servicing ? every 2 years/24k miles

Any other differences between the two fastback models? Any idea on servicing costs and interval for the V8?
If you wait till 2017 the road tax on the V8 will reduce to 140 a year

If it's the same video I'm thinking of it wasn't tank to tank? That's the only true way of getting mpg, a snapshot of 50 mile trip won't tell you anything.
I'm only expecting mid 20s from my ecoboost.
One of the big selling points for me on the Ecoboost (and one of the reasons I could justify buying one) was the mpg. Now, I'm generally a very optimistic guy so take this with a pinch of salt but I'm hoping for (and expecting) to achieve high 30's on my work commute; when I have a sensible day that is ;) and of course use the cruise control! My commute is a 90 mile round trip & 95% motorway so I am in a good position to achieve those figures. Official combined figure for UK is 35.

I came across an interesting video on the Ecoboost mpg - a guy in the US did a number of tests & from what I remember he achieved low 40's at some point - and thats US mpg! Be very interesting to see what real world figures we will get...although it will be mighty tempting to put my foot down every day!

P.s. sorry to all those V8ers for rambling on about fell economy ;)

A US pint is 16 fluid ounces; ours is 20 so our gallon (still 8 pints) is 25% bigger. 20 mpg in the US is 25 here.

It will be interesting to see if we do actually have a euro tune for 95 RON, or if they just let the engine retune itself as it goes along. I still haven't decided whether to use 95 or 98/100 "super" in my EB auto.

I have close to 12K miles and even after a 3500 mile trip never averaged more then 30MPGs....I'm averaging more like 20 MPG combined city/hiway....only maint. cost so far has been an oil change....first one was free...my road tax AKA Excise Tax was close to $400 but will go down each year as car depreciates....

Your gallons are smaller than ours though, we instantly gain about 3 or 4mpg. Which fuel grade do you use? Our standard is 95 which is roughly equivalent to your 91

Cant say that running costs really concern me, I would have brought a 5.0l V8 if they did.
That said, I will have fun seeing how good I can get it. plus 20 would please me but I really dont care

the 'official' mpg figures are in the latest brochure and I think they're slightly more realistic than the ones found in VW brochures.
