Just got an email from PBD saying the RTD is being discontinued.

Anyone know what it’s being replaced with?

Is the MPVi3 sticking around?

Thinking about trying a new tuner / tune and was hoping for just a cheap device to load the tune and data log…

RTD FLASHER, the software tuners use, not the device itself

Ah ok. Didn’t realize there was a difference between the RTD device and RTD Flasher.

Am I able to datalog with HP tuners with their software and OBD cable to the laptop? Only datalog. I realize I’d need credits etc to program or load a tune.

Or at minimum what do I need? I still have this completely annoying stumble.

no worries. They are trying to force the TDN app on everyone which apparently isn’t that stable? Idk, never had an issue with it myself. That’s why they are asking to write to HP and let them know they should keep RTD FLASHER.

No, RTD4 is just coming out. We just got a set I believe for our customers.

No this is completely incorrect.

The RTD is the device. Its the same as the MPVI2/3 but you cannot use it to edit tunes with the VCM suite. VCM suite is the software (VCM scanner for logging and VCM editor for tune changes and flashing). The RTD is the consumer device, the MPVI is the tuner device. The MPVI allows us to edit tunes in VCM editor. There is no such thing as RTD FLASHER software. The RTD is the device you plug in and use with the TDN app to flash and log your car. No tune changes can be made with that device.

Incorrect. The original version of the RTD uses software called RTD Flasher to load the tune you receive from your tuner. I still use an original RTD, I want no part of the TDN junk!

Yeah that’s not something that’s been in use for who knows how long? Predates TDN by a long shot.

Still works great for me! haha :) Literally used it to flash an updated tune earlier this month.

I'll stick with the RTD Flasher software to load tunes vs the sketchy TDN App.
Frequent failures to communicate or load and then when it does occasionally work for me, it's almost 15-20 minutes of nail-biting time to load the tune.

With the RTD Flasher Software, I plug the laptop into the RTD3 and boom, tune or revision loaded in less than 3min. I use HPtuners VCM Scanner on the laptop for live datalogging but if they ditch RTD flasher, I'll ditch HPTuners for another platform.

I can’t speak for anything about this with the exception of when I get tuned by Wengerd I was going with RTD4 if they have it which sounds like it’s going to use this new TDN thing. It sounds like the flasher is for all the guys who got it years ago and still use it. This is turning me off from HP tuners right now. Especially if it doesn’t download good. If anybody else could chime in and let me know that would be great because that’s the way I was going. I guess what I’m asking is for those who tuned with Wengerd which device did you buy.

The RTD is fine. It works with the TDN app as well as VCM scanner and editor if you really want to get into it. VCM scanner is for datalogging and also will let you clear adaptives, change tire circumference and many other things. Like read and clear DTCs. Its more for advanced users admittedly.

In my case, it was Wengerd in May of '23 with an RTD3 that I purchased along with the initial FI tune. In fairness, some of the problem could've been my older Samsung A71 phone, although I keep it updated and currently running Android 13. Maybe they have the wrinkles ironed out of the App now.

Eventually, I think I installed it on my wife's Samsung S6 tablet and eventually got the tune to load. Wendgerd was the one who suggested the RTD Flasher software to me after I picked up a laptop for datalogging and from then on, loading revisions became fast and stress free. Perhaps there are many who have no problem with the app and I'm glad, but my second peeve was the slowness in loading tunes. The RTD Flasher software has me spoiled.

That’s all I needed to know. I’m just looking to get something to download a good tune to straighten out this A10. I’m not going FI or anything like that so I don’t need any data logging.

I can help you out if you need. We have the RTD4 now too.
