Hey everyone!

Going to be getting new wheels and tires probably here in the next few months and wanted to see what you guys think. These will be my track wheels and tires. Looking to do HPDEs again next year anywhere from 5-7 times. Run group will either be Novice Solo or Intermediate. Car is 2019 PP1 6MT (Mods in signature).

More than likely I'm going to go with:

Falken also has the RT660 at the 295/35/19, but it looks like the tread width on those are ~10.6 (As apposed to 10.1 for the 275).

Do you guys think it makes sense to go with the 295 over the 275 for the extra ~.5 in width, but ~$200 more? I'm also a little nervous about trying to fit 295 on the front as well. This will also be my second season doing HPDE with this car.

Thoughts/Recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but if these are going to be dedicated track wheels/tires, why not 11" wide with 305's? You could do an 18x11, or a 19x11. Tires for the 18's are a tad cheaper. I prefer the 19's myself. 305's fit just fine on the front with a 25mm spacer and extended studs.

Given your choice between the two you mentioned, I would go with the 295s for sure. These cars need lots of tire in the front. Have you done anything to add camber to the front?

RT660's run a bit wide if I'm not mistaken, and a more optimal wheel for 295 would be 11 inch. You can probably fit them on 10's, but it won't be good for track driving. This tirerack test should answer a lot of your questions:

haha yeah I was curious if someone was going to bring up 18s as well. I've thought about this too and have been tempted to get Apex 18 inch wheels, but Im not sure I want to spend the extra $. I would although save money in tires if I went 18s... I may need to re-look at this again.

As for the 19x11, Im not sure I want to go through the extra trouble of doing extended studs and all of that... How much of a pain and cost is it to do something like this? I love the 19s, which is why Im kindive leaning towards the 19x10, but yeah I understand the 19x11 would give me more grip :-/

Yeah this does help. Essentially, If I'm going to go with the 19x10, I should do the 275 because "wider isn't always faster". Makes sense.

I've never fitted extended studs either (Thinking it was kindive a pain), but it does look pretty straight forward after watching CJ Pony Parts.

If I DID do extended studs and went for like the 19x11 on 295, do you guys have recommendations on extended studs? Something like this? https://www.cjponyparts.com/ford-performance-wheel-stud-arp-extended-set-mustang/p/M1107C/

OPMustang is my go-to source for studs and slip on spacers, consult with @Optimum Performance . I've done my extended studs myself and it was fine. Do it once, but then take benefit from it all the time. If you do up to 7 events a year, that's quite a lot, and it makes sense to spend money once to get the setup, that you will eventually end up doing anyways))) just skip the step of investing into wheels that you would end up replacing anyways.

Also, you should expect to most likely see some good sales on wheels during black friday. I have a set of 11 Trident wheels from Steeda, and they've been fine for last couple years. They have pretty great sales on them from time to time. Apex is probably best, but you can use less expensive options as well.

Yes, those would work fine. Swapping the studs is a fairly easy job. Then just get a slip on 25mm spacer, OP Mustang sells all of this stuff as well. If it were up to me, I would just pony up the extra cash and go with the 19x11's. Buy once, cry once!

If you do end up going with those, 305/30's are the tire size most run, which is not offered in the Falken tire. There are many brands that do offer that size, however.

Yeahhh this is one of the reasons Im trying to line up what I want to do as well. Im hoping/planning for some sales and trying to jump on them if I can.

Hey this is Junior from N4SM, I have had that same wheel and similar tire setup on my s550 mustang. I would recommend the 275 on the 19x10 front. The 295 will fit fine I had it on my car but i don't think you will get the best performance out of the size tire on the 10 wide wheel, a 19x11 is best for a 295. If they offer a 285 I think that would be a better fit.

May be a stupid question, but since we're here I'll ask it haha. If I did go 19x11 with 305s, I would need to get extended studs on all 4 points right? Not just the front, I'm assuming all around right?

No, only the fronts. You would get 19x11 50mm offset which would fit the rear with no spacer. This now allows you to rotate the tires front to back, extending their life.

From Apex's fitment guide:

Wheels Front & Rear: 19x11" ET52

  • Available in: EC-7, SM-10, VS-5RS, EC-7RS, SM-10RS
  • Additional negative camber is required up front. We recommend at least -2.75*
  • 25mm spacers, extended wheel studs, and open lug nuts are required up front for strut clearance
  • No spacers are needed on the rear
  • Select coilovers with offset housings allow the use of a 20mm front spacer. The only known coilovers are JRi, JRZ, and MCS. Please contact your suspension manufacturer to determine if your coilover not listed here has offset housings if you wish to run less of a front spacer. Most do not.
Tires APEX Staff Pick: Front & Rear 305/30-19

  • Extreme Performance Summer: Falken RT660 (200 TW), Goodyear Supercar 3 (220 TW), Nankang CRS (200 TW)
  • R-Compound: Nitto NT01 (100 TW), Nankang AR1 (100 TW), Goodyear Supercar 3R (100 TW), Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 (180 TW)
  • Semi-Slick: 295/30-19 Hoosier R7 & A7 (40 TW)

Wheels Front: 19x11" ET26 // Rear: 19x11” ET52

  • Available in: SM-10, VS-5RS, EC-7RS
  • Additional negative camber is required up front. We recommend at least -2.75*
  • No front spacers are needed
  • No rear spacers are needed
