I have 16' GT that Im getting a Roush Supercharger Phase 2 kit installed on. The car has 1 7/8 catless Kooks headers. The shop I talked to said that the Roush tune included in the kit is meant for a stock GT, and because of this the tune may cause the car to run rough. They said they could install it like that or they could custom tune it but they would have to install some high flow cats. So my question is, why do they have to install cats on the car? Should I just have them install the kit, and worry about tuning after or just have them take care of it all? The difference in price is only about 600 dollars and it would be nice to not have to worry about passing emissions if I get the cats installed. It just sounded weird that they absolutely had to install cats on the car, so was wondering if there's more on the backend that I don't know.

The roush tune is for stock cars with catalytic converter which is why they want install the cats. If they complete the install without installing the catalytic converter, the car will still operate properly but will generate a check engine light due to no cats. The other alternative is to get an aftermarket tune which is what I would recommend and keep the cats off because they are known to possibly break and clog up with boost as well and the car runs way better with after market tune than roush tune and will not generate a check engine light.I have a 16 mustang gt with roush supercharger as well. I had the phase 1 with stock roush tune and cats. Then I deleted the cats and got aftermarket tune and world of a difference.

Something does not make sense. If they are custom tuning it then they tune without cats. Otherwise they are not touching tuning and adding cats to make the existing tune happy. Talk to PBD or other reputable tuner.

The shop can not legally turn off any emissions equipment so if they tune it they will have to install cats

That makes sense. Been having trouble finding a tuner that would tune the car without cats here in the Valley. Guess I'll just have to go with getting cats and getting this done.

Gotcha, yea was hoping to keep the car with no cats but I'm having a hard time finding a reputable tuner that will tune the car without them. At this point I'm leaning towards just getting them installed and letting them handle the tune along with the install.

For liability purposes, tuners will not say they will tune your cat-less car. Just get a tune from someone reputable like vmp, lund, or palm beach dyno and you should be good. I personally have mak cat deletes and a palm beach dyno tune and it’s been great. You can also have them install the cats for now and with the roush tune and see how you like it. If later down the line you want to turn it up then worry about that then, I just personally don’t like cats with boost due to the possibility of them breaking and causing an issue.

Just have them install it with the provided tuner. It will run fine then you can ether get a custom tune or deal with it yourself. If you were closer to me I could turn anything off that you needed but you are a little to far
