Sorry for the delay... I have a lot of pics of the museum, but that's about it due to cameras not being allowed in most areas I was in.

Here is a bit of a rundown on my trip....

I got off the plane and was picked up by Roush's Customer Care Director Bernadette. She gave me an idea of what we would be doing throughout the day and explained who I would be meeting. First up was the engineers.

They wanted me to test my vehicle and verify the fix. At this time there was an experimental PCM in the car that hooked up directly to the engineer's notebook. We did a run on the expressway and around the neighborhood for about 30 mins to an hour. At this time the car was on the base 670 tune. I was able to replicate the issue a couple of times. Once I did that, he changed the tune up a bit and I attempted to recreate the issue again. For the most part it was good, but it did happen another time. He was able to adjust the tune again to completely eliminate the issue.

As to what the issue is? Accorording to the engineers, a very strange case of input shaft related NVH. It was causing false knock. They showed me the graphs in real time as they were testing to prove that it wasn't any type of detonation. They were actually able to adjust the tune to make the issue worse on demand. The problem was that they had to eliminate the issue in the shift patterns with the 4-2 upshift in every possible mph scenario. Then do it again in Sport+ and Track modes. It was a lot of tedious work.

After that, they took me to lunch at local place that was really good. Then I got to meet up the majority of their staff including Kyle. Bernadette then introduced me to Jack Roush Jr. who took me on a tour of Roush Aviation, their test cells (engine dyno labs), and emissions testing facility. We then went over to the museum that houses a lot of the Roush family vehicles. It was really neat hearing the stories behind a lot of the beautiful cars they had there.

Next I went back to hear the exhaust they installed on my car while we were gone (it's badass) and then I was introduced to Mike Rey. He is in charge of the Roush Road Crew. He was previously working for Ford as a product information specialist on the 2015 Mustang and the 2016 GT350. He wanted to taake me over to Ford headquarters and show me around, but we didn't have that much time. Instead, we went to this little building where Ford Performance is run out of. Pulling up to the building I saw a Focus RS in the parking lot. Then I saw the GT350 for the first time in Orange. Little did I know what I was in for....lol.

Once inside it felt like I was in a magazine. I have never seen so many GT350's in one place. They were on the lifts in the garage and all over the parking lot. The parking lot is where they keep all the old camo cars and production tesing vehicles. While it was amazing to see it was sad too. All of these vehicles are going to be destroyed as they are pre-production without VIN's. I tried to get them to send me a set of carbon fiber wheels, but didn't have much luck ;). Then they had one more thing to show me. It was a partially disassembled 2016 Ford GT. Even half together it was awesome.

After that they dropped me off at the airport and I made my way home! It was a very awesome trip. I can't thank everyone at Roush enough for everything they have done!

So, I'll ask the obvious question ...............

Is the modified tune they did for your car going to be the "new standard" for all cars or was this just something specific to how your car was bolted together by Ford ?

The engineers will certainly find the information useful going forward however his issue was very unique. It was an NVH issue and the only one we've seen the concern with.

Just to be clear, with the Roush warranty, shouldn't the input shaft be repaired, replaced vs masking the issue with a cal change? Or did the calibration have an issue, which caused the trans/TC to not engage properly, causing noise and false knock?

The customer had the car in 3 times (for months), allegedly the dealer worked with Roush on the issue, including data logs and each time, "it wasn't the calibration". I think one answer was, its the exhaust. Nobody saw the "detonation" or false detonation? It's a pretty important parameter. If the NVH was causing false knock, what was the noise in the video, that certainly wasn't false knock. False knock doesn't make clanking sounds. If that noise in the video is the NVH in question, what did it have to do with false knock? Fix the NVH, then it doesn't false knock.

Something doesn't add up here. I'm certainly glad the customer is finally, after months, can now enjoy his supercharged Mustang and got a very cool tour, but the information does not sound accurate. It sounds like the calibration was the issue, which caused the noise, then false knock vs a "unique" NVH issue.

At 41 seconds, that is not "false knock".

I kinda have to agree here.. I'm glad they guy has his car, but there's obviously something very wrong with the calibration if you have insane knock like that. False knock does not sound like that. False knock is NVH, and isn't really audible.

Not trying to be a downer here.. just getting the white elephant out in the room.

Maybe I'm explaining it wrong then? I have some experience datalogging my N/A 2014, but not much else. It may sound funny coming from a guy that is only trying to speak the language.
I did watch them turn the problem on and off right in front of me. So I am confident in Roush's ability to resolve this issue. I do appreciate everyone's input and support along the way too!

I assume that you have the car back now and wondering if you are pleased with the new tune. Keep us posted as to when you may run down to BMP, as I would like to see the car run. I am seriously interested in how the car runs, as an Roush/Auto is most likely my next car after the Boss is gone.

It's a night and day difference from the 627 tune. Drivability is spot on too. I'll heading to BMP on the stock tires as soon as we get a bit cooler air. This is my daily, so I won't be doing new tires until I can find a 10-11 inch rear dark stainless replica (love these wheels).

Another GT with the Roush blower I know of has run 11.029@130 on street tires. Look for roush_s550 on instagram.... he has the slips and video posted there... cut a 1.7 60' on all seasons....

If you're ever in the Spring Hill/Brooksville area, hit me up and you can check it out.

Glad to hear you're happy now. Been there and I know how it feels getting caught between manufacture and shop.

My car is @ Elder & prepped. Going in Monday to inspect, complete the sale, drop off the wheels/tires, finalize the graphics & tint etc. They should be starting to install stuff on Tue !

Just need to nail down the damn fender badges - always the smallest stuff that causes the biggest headaches :(
