i am looking into the roush axlebacks and have read many different things. I have a few questions for those who have it installed on their v6.
Does it drone? if so how much & what rpm?
Does is ever get too loud/raspy? crackling?
Do you love/hate them? Would you recommend? Prefer any other system?
Anything else you have experience with them
Thanks! :headbang:

UPDATE: [ame]

Had my exhaust in for a couple of weeks now and i absolutely love them.. city driving within 3k rpm they arent too loud, just a nice deep tone that the stock exhaust wont give. When you want it to be loud and step on it, it get's LOUD and i love it.
Highway driving has slight drone around 1.6-2k rpm when engine is under load or climbing a hill but cruising around 100km/hr you can barely hear anything, doesnt bother me at all. i highly recommend these.

If you leave the rest of the exhaust system stock, you shouldn't have any issues with drone or it being too loud. I am selling my roush exhaust if you are interested. I am selling because I need the money, I love the system though.. Great product

Just had mine installed today, so I need to drive around a bit to give an informed opinion. First impression though is I REALLY like them! Fairly loud in the cabin when accelerating/climbing a hill but they settle down when cruising. Of course, I have a vert, so may seem a bit louder than a fastback.

Unfortunately, they seem to have a persistent drone in the 1500-2000RPM range, peak right around 1750RPM, when the engine is under load. If you are cruising along and the engine isn't under load, it is very quiet but, holy crap, if the engine settles into that range, it isn't very pleasant.

Normally, low tones don't bother me but whatever frequency it's hitting is annoying to me. Been researching solutions but, honestly, unless either I get used to it, or someone can suggest a straight-forward fix (like adding an X-pipe or something equally simple), I may go back to the stock mufflers and just have a quiet Mustang.

There are esoteric fixes involving J-tubes at certain lengths to cancel out the resonance but I don't know if I really want to go down the rabbit hole.

Shame because I really do like the sound and tone when starting, accelerating or cruising....

I know this probably doesn't help, but.... Live with it for a few hundred miles. My drone with windows up was seemingly unbearable when I first had the LM2's installed. After a few hundred miles it's still there, but is much better. My mufflers are very similar to the Roush.

Also, if it's not raining, try rolling the windows down, at least partially. It really helped with my drone. An X-Pipe will probably make it worse, not better. An H-Pipe may be the way to go for drone, but it really changes the tone of the exhaust (think subaru boxer motor), so make sure it's what you want to do.

Give them some time to break in mine were unbearable at first but either I got use to it or it went away and I've since added X pipe and shorty headers which did help with drone on the flip side volume increased inside but it's good and not annoying I can still carry on a conversation and my music stays at around 5or7 and hear it just fine

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought I'd do in the short run, see if it changes, or if I can live with it, at least for a few weeks/months. After that, I guess we'll see.

I got the Hooker Blackheart AB and I have just a bit of drone below 2000 rpms under load. Most of the time it is just throaty and sounds great but every so often I get stuck at 45-50 MPH going up a hill and it is a bit annoying.. When ever it bothers me, not often, I just put it in S mode and with my MPT tune it goes away... Mostly because in S mode the rpm's never get below 1850 or so... Just FYI!

Sounds like good advice, I'll give it a try.

BEST....ADVICE...EVER!!!!! :headbang:

Either they are 'breaking in' or I'm getting used to them, but it doesn't seem as bad and, when it does, S mode cures what ails me!!

I HATED THE SOUND. Sounded like a ricer to me. I have mine up for sale in the marketplace. just got a borla touring catback and I'm 100% happy now! I actually prefer stock over the Roush exhaust, but the borla is FINE :)

Man, i just got some used roush mufflers on mine and i freakin love it! Car sounds real deep down low and all kinds of pissed off up top. I have a x pipe and shorty headers though, so alot different then just running the mufflers with the rest of the system stock

Test drove a Roush V6 when i was looking, thought i was raspy at higher RPM's. I watched and listened to a lot of exhaust vids. I was settled on the hooker blackheart AB's. That was until the OEM GT takeoff catback V6 swap thread. Liked the sound and reports of no drone. Have one on my car and love it. Best bang for buck V6 mod. Price ranges from free to less than $200. Depends on how much it is in the GT owners way.
