Rough acceleration when cold, why?

No one's saying they're running it hard when it's cold... This happens under light grandma acceleration and shifting at 2k when it's below operating temp.

Eh? Normal? You guys are joking right? My '12 Mustang didnt do any of this shit. Nor did the 15 cars that preceded it. After flashing the SCT preloaded 93 octane tune all of this bullshit went away. Not sure what or why ANY of you are thinking this is "normal" or acceptable but it certainly is not. Nothing is being "protected." It's a shit tune out of the box and it should have been corrected before release. The base Lund tune does it as well but to a lesser extent. I imagine after they get all of the idle, short drive, and 4th gear pull that it starts to get sorted but to think this is normal or a feature is crap.

Good to know, and is actually what I expected. And it's only "normal" in the sense that all or most of these stock cars do it. I was wondering if there's actually a reason behind it, or if it's just a shit stock tune.

Anyone else with a good tune that still has this slightly rough running?

Thinking about this thread and madweazl's comments has me leaning towards the idea that just maybe this bad tune during cold runs is due to an EPA thing and meeting emissions before the cats warm up?
We may be screaming at Ford for something the feds are forcing on the industry.

Mine did it with the stock tune and stock air box. Also does it with a Lund tune and JLT CAI. And maybe it's just me, but seems to be more apparent in Sport mode vs Normal.

I'm a little concerned that driving this car in Minnesota winters is going to result in this thing running like shit for half of my commute until its warmed up. If that's the case she is going back to where she came from. Within reason, cars should operate properly in the desert and in Antarctica.

My rough running doesn't last all that long. Definitely goes away before the car is near operating temps. I have a 5 mile commute, and the rough feeling is all but gone after 1 mile at most. Car isn't fully up to temp until after 2.5 miles or so.

So not a HUGE issue, but still annoying nonetheless.

Ford absolutely does cold weather testing, as I've been part of it, so somebody there must have noticed this, then signed off on it that it's all good... Maybe it is some stupid EPA emissions thing, that caused Ford to tune this way.

Was your '12 a GT? Wondering if it may be V8's only. I had a 12 GT and it did do this and so did my '00 GT 4.6. Never minded myself, as it only seems to last about half a mile. Interestingly though, I have a 96 Bronco w/351 and it doesn't seem to have the same issue.

Cool morning today at 55°. Yea, she had a hard time waking up! Let it idle less than 2 min and throttle was very erratic until a few miles down the road.
Good news is, the cold weather notchy shifting did not rear its ugly head again.

I use the remote start every morning. I let it warmup for 1 to 2 mins. I also drive slowly for the first mile. I can hear the change in the sound as it idles for warmup. It was 61 degrees this morning, and the warmup did not change from the usual 90+ degrees outside.

We live on the west side of the metro area, and the little woman works downtown. She mentioned it like, one time when she first got the car last January 2nd. She said it lasts for less than two minutes running @ neighborhood street speeds. She asked if it was normal- I told her that's what happens when you're commuting with 400+ horsepower, it might not be perfect for a few minutes. She accepted my explanation. It has never seen anything but the cheapest, alcohol laced, 87 octane crap she can find, and the rear tires are STILL wearing out a whole bunch faster than the fronts.

has nothing to do with beating on it... it acts this way under normal driving.

It's normal. I like to let the car warm up and get the fluids circulating. I never just start and go.

I always let it idle for 3-5 minutes, If i don't when I shift into any gear my car lunges forward...The car starts operating normal when the temperature gauge is in between the C and H.
