Hi guys. Yesterday was sunny and nice weather so I took the car out and had some fun. I didn’t do anything too crazy, just spirited driving. After i got home and went to trunk to get stuff, I smelt like rotten egg from exhaust. Did catalytic converter give up on me or it’s normal for spirited driving and hard acceleration? My car has only 4000 miles

Not normal. I'd get those catalytic converters checked.

My cats had that smell when I really hammered on it for the first 10,000 miles or so. I mean REALLY hammered on it. That was 4-5 years and 40,000 miles ago and it's still fine. Here in CO we're used to hot cats giving off the sulfur smell in the mountains - long hard pulls up I-70 does that to a lot of vehicles. I never thought anything of it. My car seems fine. It does not make that smell anymore - I suppose in two years when I get it emissions tested I'll find out if the cats are junk.

Hello; it can be both a normal thang and an abnormal thing. The computer controls which adjust the air fuel mixture are getting better and better, but are not yet perfect. If they can ever be made perfect there will not be a need for the CATS at all.
The cats are a last chance to reduce some types of air pollution before they are released into the air. When an engine is running at very close to the ideal mix of air and fuel very little excess unburned fuel escapes the combustion process.
When some not ideal events take place some fuel gets out of the engine and into the exhaust. The cats are like a stove in that they burn that excess fuel at high enough temperatures so that the fuel does not become the bad types of pollutants. Before cats the excess fuel would burn at too low of temperatures and become oxides of nitrogen (NOX) and such. So from time to time it can be normal to have that rotten egg smell.

If the smell is around too often it may be a sign of some fault in the systems which control the fuel/air mix. If you do not have a tune then the system may need to be checked. On high mileage cars I would suspect the O2 sensors, but at 4000 miles such should not be the case. Not sure what the best procedure would be to check the function. Maybe pull the codes if any. Maybe have a tailpipe sniffer check the emissions. Odds are your car is OK and the CATs are not yet damaged. MPG is one indicator. If the MPG is way low and below normal such is a sign.

Good luck

Same with mine it has a kind of sulphur smell to me. I asked my dealer about it and also told them they would have to send the car to replicate it. It seems fairly common and not a big deal reading on here.

Ford service CD says low grade fuel can be a problem.

93 from QT and Racetrak. And when on road trips the best I can find.

I haven't seen any posts about cat failure for the S550, but that's not to say I don't think there are any.
