Just got my car back from getting a roll cage welded in. I had to pull the entire dash to do it. I removed the entire blower motor assembly along with the wiring harness. I finally got it all back together after about 50 hours of work and it won't start. Battery has 12.5 volts, I'm getting a "steering assist fault" but all I'm getting is some clicking under the center console. Sounds like the security box that recognizes when the key is close is what's causing the click. Will removing the AC wiring harness and or a steering fault keep the car from starting? I checked the steering column and all the harnesses were installed and I also checked the wiring schematics and it doesn't look like anything feeds through the AC harness into anything required to start it.

Is that your stock battery? Also check voltage while cranking the engine over.

The battery's been replaced about a year ago. I have it on the charger now fingers crossed! I can't imagine having to pull the dash again.

If you welded on the car without disconnecting the battery there is a chance you fried the ecu

The battery was definitely disconnected. The car was bare when I brought it to him and I disconnected it.

Welding on a vehicle is always tricky endeavor. The ground should always be moved to the location you are welding. Leaving it in one spot is a No-No. Stray voltage will take the path of least resistance to reach the ground. I hope it’s a simple fix..

Unless you removed every single piece of instrumentation, keep moving the ground to the area your welding. 👍. Looks Good! I need pics when your finished! 👍👍

I mean, after all this work, do you end up kinda wishing you would roll? I mean, might as well experience the safety all that work and headache has created, right?

Holy F

Lol I fixed it

I guess the welder pulled the "Can Bus Start Fuse" and never replaced it. Luckily I had 30 laying around and BAM, started right up!!!
Oh geez… did you find that out after you popped the dash out again as seen in your response of Post #10 above?

Lol. No but I spent about 8 hours trying to figure out the cause. I did pull the center console again and disconnected every connection and sprayed with contact cleaner. Now I fixed that but I'm getting a check charging system alert. I'm not so worried about that though. I just haven't dug in to find the cause yet. Testing fuses are easy but when one is missing, that messed me up.
