Learn anything that we haven't heard before that is ok to share?
Nothing much more than I’ve already said. Tire temps are important for sure. Always checking and adjusting constantly. Making sure to be running no more than about 36 hot. It’s easy to overcook slow corners. Better to stop the car properly and accelerate through the apex. There’s much more but I’m no pro and it’s difficult for me to accurately put into technical terms what I’ve learned. But I do know that this car is FAR more capable than 99% of the people who buy one and will actually track it. It’s extremely fast and capable but you need to be very good and confident to wrestle the last couple of 10ths. But if you have those skills, you are rewarded.

I appreciate you sharing that Joe.

I was wondering though about your co-driver.

Thanks for the details.

Of note. I know a couple of the guys that crew for Dean Martin's IMSA Mustang effort. One of them works for Roush. Not the weak assed aftermarket Roush Mustang group but rather the group that does all the dirty work for Ford. Anyway, he's been embedded with the GT500 development team and traveled with the car to tracks across the country for quite some time. I inquired about settings when Randy/MT visited VIR with a pair of GT500's not long ago. I learned that the team saw results when front camber was around -2.4* but that they found additional negative camber beyond that wasn't beneficial. I was intrigued as I watched the same guys setup one of Dean's GT4 Mustangs to near -4* up front (different tracks, different settings, I know, just a data point). So your setting at -2.3* definitely caught my eye.
The GT4's have different tires, different wheels, make more downforce, weigh less, all of which (especially the tires) affect the ideal camber setting for that setup. You can't simply look at one car's camber and compare it in any meaningful way to the ideal camber for another car. TIRE TEMPS are what tells you the required camber for your specific setup.

The GT500 CFTP has very stiff carbon wheels that require on average 1* less camber than a superlight aluminum wheel. When going to light/flexible AL wheels, you need more camber than a heavier and stiffer AL (or very light and stiffer CF) wheel. Changing out the tires to a different make/model also changes the camber requirements. Same with changing the springs/bars/downforce/etc... If you keep the car stock, Ford's track settings are close to ideal without fine tuning for a particular track. As you modify your car, the ideal camber will probably change.

I hear you Billy and that's why I mentioned "different tracks, different settings, I know, just a data point." I'd never simply look at a number and "compare it in any meaningful way to the ideal camber for another car."

You mention wheel deflection. Out of curiosity, if you know, how much more does the rather heavy Base wheel deflect vs the CFTP wheel? That's a general question as I'm sure numerous curves can be plotted for various inputs but I'd be interested in a number in comparing these two wheels as that's what most here will have - one or the other.

Never thought about wheel deflection affecting instant camber but makes perfect sense. Same reason you take out all the compliant connections in the suspension for racing.

Going to Barber in April
I wanted to do Barber in April also, but had committed to VIR the following weekend. Thought of doing both, but the travel for both were not in the vacation plans of the new job.

Thanks to everyone that has posted so far. I realize it's still early in the year. I'm really looking forward to hearing more track tales!

I wanted to go to COTA however a group from Houston are going to Barber. I’ll do COTA later in the year.

I'm patiently waiting for my CFTP to get delivered so I can start working on some detailed on track review videos. For starters I'm going to be comparing it against my TT prepped GT350R to decide which car I'll be bringing to TT nationals this year. I'm also trying to put together a proper GT500 vs ZL1-1LE track comparison so we can finally put that one to rest. We're going to hand the key over to my buddy Jade Buford (Pro IMSA Driver) to see what he can do, and get his input. And we might also get Andy Pilgrim to lay down some laps as well. This year is gonna be a blast! Can't wait!
