I'm more worried about the transmission then anything else. I believe these motors are really strong. Will the tune also void the warranty on the transmission ?Even if the tune has not effected the transmission on a manual?

Like others have said you won't know until you know.

You have to consider it from Ford's perspective though - if you increase the power output of the engine and the transmission breaks don't you think it could be because of the increased power? Would it be wrong for them to deny warranty there? No. Does it guarantee they will deny it? No, but it's a reasonable denial.

Now if your power windows go out it might be pretty easy to see they would warranty that still.

Ok thanks! I want to get long tubes but I'm worried about my warranty. So if I get them with cats I shouldn't get a CEL right?
If you are not going to get a tune to take advantage of the LTH, then why bother. The install is a pain in the ass, and if you have someone else do it, it's going to cost you half the price of the headers or more.

All for what? A possible CEL and no tune to take advantage of your work and the extra power and torque hiding in your newly piped system? If you want to simulate purchasing LTH, and go through the process of installing them without the possibility of having issues...I have some OEM exhaust manifolds that you can buy from me for about the price of some Kooks LTH. Install mine and your car will still be under warranty but won't need a tune. ;)

What ? so you are saying if I install long tube headers , Cats and a tune I'll have a check engine light on all the time... That is crazy .. Doesn't the tune account for that problem?

Yes it does dude, when u have longtubes installed with or without cats the tuners will turn off the rear 02s which will stop them from turning on a cel.As long as u have a quality set of headers u should not have any issues from the upstream 02s in which again the turner can check with a datalog and make a tweak IF necessary.90 % of the time the tune has nothing to do to making more hp rather then drivabilty and thats not very often. Most of the time the tune is needed to turn off the downstream 02s which only check the condition of the cats.

No, I'm pretty sure I said that by installing catted or catless longtube headers and not tuning, you are leaving potential power on the table and are running the risk of your car popping a CEL.

1-855-TBR-RACE - Beefcake's number
1-877-2-LETHAL - Lethal Performance
(313) 561-5500 - Livernois Motorsport

Call anyone of these vendors and ask to speak to a tech. I have called both Beef and Lethal on several occasions for tech help, (and a few tips on getting those headers in) and they won't charge you a dime for questions. That may clear up some confusion.

**Edit**

Not sure if this was the confusing part of my original post but it was meant to be a joke. Running the OEM exhaust manifolds without a tune is running your car the way it is now...stock.

Without a tune you will get a cel with long tube headers with or without cats. Your stock tune is looking for a signal from the O2 sensors at a their stock location and rate of cycle. When you install long tube headers you move the O2 sensors. The upstream sensors stay close to their stock position and continue to operate as normal. The problem comes from the down stream O2 sensors being further away from their stock position. At this lower position the sensors take longer to heat up causing the sensor to not accurately work. By sending the computer data out side of the parameters the computer will interpret these signals as a problem and determine that there is a fault in the system and give you a cel.

Most tuners out there will simply shut off your rear O2 sensors in the tune file so that the computer stops looking for that signal. This will cause you to fail emissions in OBD 2 states because the turned off O2 sensors will read not ready when the test equipment is hooked up.

These cars aren't fox body's you can't just throw headers on them and go. They need computer adjustments to account for the movement of sensors or for increased air flow.

Well then there should not be a problem .. I have a bama tune for the headers and my guess is they know this .

Really surprised tuners have not figured out a workaround that deletes the flash footprint.

A lot of us do. Whats your point? He is correct. A lot of people jump in here expecting to go HAM on modifying their cars (daily driven or not) but want to keep their warranty intact. That's not the way it works.

He is right, you have to pay to play. With every aftermarket part you jam under the hood, ...with every flash of the ECU... you run a risk of screwing something up. It's a small one, but its there. If that's too much for some, then like what many here have said, keep the car stock. 375+ WHP is plenty fun anyway.

Yeah. The car is awesome stock. True.

I was asking if he DDs his car for some perspective on risk tolerance, when, I guess, the real question is how much risk am I comfortable with; don't worry about what other people are doing.

My car will remain stock for now
