I feel ya on the tears. I wrecked my Silverado I had for 5 years back 2.5 years ago. I couldn't wait to get a new truck for several months prior but wjen it came down to it and my truck was destroyed on side of interstate I felt a sense of sadness.

For a certain percentage of us vehicles become a part of us. I even felt a little sad, almost a sense of betrayal, when I traded my tundra for my mustang.
How I feel. I’m considering getting a loaded Mustang. I am considering really a lot of options, nothing nailed down. I had two cars of negative equity rolled into my Mustang. So this freedom, with money I’ve never had before, will allow me to consider other options.

Just found out that Ford’s gap insurance also will cover my deductible in the cast of a total. Hoping it’s a total.

Adjuster will be seeing the car and evaluating it in the next few days. We released it to USAA, and spent time talking to a rep who said he thinks it’s fine but unsure. Really hoping it is. A precision performance vehicle like this wouldn’t be close to the same after that.

You should be checking into why no airbags deployed.

I think you need to read your GAP policy. Most of them do not cover negative equity that was rolled over from another vehicle. They will only pay the amount that was financed for the vehicle that was in a wreck. You will likely still owe the negative equity unless your remaining balance is already less that what the actual value of the vehicle was when you bought it.

Depends on which GAP policy you get. You are correct in what you say when referring to most GAP policies purchased through your auto insurance. GAP sold by dealerships often cover up to around 150% of the value of the vehicle. It's usually a no brainer to take the GAP offered by dealership as it does cover your deductible and is a one time purchase. However, most people see the price tag of it (usually around 800 bucks) and automatically think getting it through their insurance is cheaper and better. I've seen quite a few people get screwed on that and owe a lot of money when they thought they were covered.

I have GAP through Ford itself. I’ve never heard of gap not covering. Thought that was the whole point of GAP.

GAP insurance covers the difference in the value of the car at the time of the loss and the amount the vehicle was financed for. This is why I suggest that you read your policy. I did a quick search for Ford's GAP coverage. Their brochures don't mention roll over amounts, but does state that additional limitations apply and you should read your GAP addendum.

I will have to look for it. I thought insurance pays for the value of it, then gap pays that. I only had a few grand rolled in. Now I’m stressing. Great

Update! My car has been picked up by the adjuster. Might be a few days. They need to wash it first, but he said the damage is extensive. Wasn’t able to say much further.

WarrENDeatH glad your doing well. Let us know what GAP covers. I got mine through Liberty Mutual for much less than the dealership offered. It was like $3 more a month. I didn't roll any negative equity in mine but still wondering if they cover that with Ford GAP.

Exciting to know you might get a new ride. At least give us a few names of the cars on the list.

Glad to hear you're safe - that's a lot of damage and will most likely get totaled out.

I'm curious as to why the air bags did not deploy with a frontal impact? At what velocity and impact are the sensors programmed to "deploy" and "not deploy"??

My issue too. I went into the woods going 60, at least while spinning in a circle. A bit scary nothing deployed.

Gap covered 20k in negative for me plus my deductable. purchased at dealer
I purchased mine at the dealer as well. I hope I’m as lucky as this....

As for cars? It ranges. My family and wife want me to run from sports cars. I can’t seem to do it. My list is long, more of a dream list that will be picked apart. Most of these are ā€˜unrealistic’. I paid a lot for my Mustang because of negative equity. So, I feel like going in fresh might net me some room for a ā€˜better car’.

BMW M3/M4 (I had a deposit on the M2)
Golf R
Type R
Jag F Type (leases are cheap)
Jag F Pace
Accord Coupe V6
17 Mustang (all black and fully loaded)
Focus RS
Subaru WRX
GT350

I think that’s about everything, I can think of, anyways. The M’s are leading, as it’s always been my dream car.
