Got it. :cheers:I love the sound of the cars, that's not the "douchey" part. If they just revved it would be fine. It's the speeding on a residential street with kids, pets and old people puttering around.
Loud for the sake of being loud is not something I've ever liked, and sometimes it's the character of the sound that's more annoying than its volume (I find Flowmaster'ed Fox/SN95 Mustangs to be particularly offensive in this regard). My 3 inch stainless Pypes H-bomb cat back attracts attention. Old folks don’t like it. Lol.

It's one thing for a car's exhaust sound to have a "voice" that's a bit above a factory-sedan whisper. Just enough louder to notice it's a little louder or sounds a little different is enough.
Maybe it's the people who think that "only a little louder" isn't loud enough are the ones who aren't as much the "car guys" they think they are. Else they wouldn't need all that extra loudness to tell that a car has a modified exhaust that might hint at other mods of interest. No, anything quieter than an "ear-bleeder" is too subtle for them . . .

Higher cylinder pressures make louder "pops" when the exhaust valve opens.Heat and noise is a byproduct of power in an ICE. No way around it. Tell me how many times you've heard a quiet car(Don't be stupid and say an electric car, those don't count) on a drag strip or race track? It just doesn't happen all that often.
Of course. But it doesn't need to be left "dialed up to 11".Heat and noise is a byproduct of power in an ICE. No way around it.

I've had to listen to 'ear-bleeder-level-loud' cars at autocross (as a course worker) and even a couple of times at HPDE where a car passing was too loud even with my full-face helmet on.
On the street, there's zero need for anything approaching those levels. Showing off is not a legitimate reason.

I agree there's no need and it's probably actually illegal how loud(in decibels) some of these cars on the street are.
But at the same time... I'm a hypocrite. My car is pretty loud. Not ear piercing, but it's hard to tame the V8 waiting to get out.
Explosively transforming fuel + oxygen into propulsion is indeed an intrinsically noisy process, whether the "vehicle" being propelled weighs up toward 4000 lbs or only 17 grains (sorry I screwed up closing the quote in yesterday's post, since fixed).Norm,

My wife and I are here cracking up!:lol:I had a Challenger pull up next to me a couple weeks ago in front of a red light. I started revving and my wife kept telling me to stop. I kept it going and when the light turned green I nailed it with everything I had. Dude pulled away like I was barely moving. My wife was laughing, it was pretty funny.
I was driving her Rav4.![]()

My wife doesn't even like me driving with the sport exhaust mode. Needless to say, no revving goes on when she's the passengerI had a Challenger pull up next to me a couple weeks ago in front of a red light. I started revving and my wife kept telling me to stop.
