If there happened to be a recall or service update on the vehicle and they flash the ecu while it's there, it would de-couple your car from your SCT device. You would then not be able to re-tune it.

Torrie has been extremely forthright in saying that Ford can absolutely see how many times the ECU has been flashed. They can't see what was specifically done though.

If the vehicle is programmed, they do a service update, and your strategy is changed your device will now think its locked to another vehicle and will no longer be usable until its sent into SCT to be unlocked. That you want to avoid.

I know this has been said many times but just have to say thanks to Torrie for the tune and customer service. He has literally sent me tune revisions on Sunday night at 11pm and is always responsive. The SCT X4 is easy to log with and flash revised tunes...once you get it working on your computer. Thanks again, Torrie!

No problem, thank you for the kind words. I like to keep tight control over each vehicle and monitor output. That way I can roll out power safely on a broader level over a wide climate and altitude range.

Reseting the flash counter

Hello everyone, I found this forum and thread thorugh Ruby Racer and his youtube vids. So thank you Ruby for the great vids and info! Looking fwd to more.

I'm currently awaiting delivery of my 2015 EB and although I have never tuned a car before I'm eager to give Unleashed a go once the engine has been broken in. Provided Torrie ships to Canada.

I see flashing a tune to be the same as flashing a ROM or new OS on my android phone and tablet (or jailbraking your iphone). And that, I've done plenty of.

Having said that I do have a few noob inquiries which I hope you guys can chime in.
I understand that tuning the car voids the warranty in the same way in which flashing a rom or new OS voids the warranty if you have to take the phone in for repair.

The way Apple/google/phone provider know that you have flashed a new rom/os is by keeping track via a pre installed flash counter. So everyone knows to flash a rom that resets the flash counter back to ZERO when you revert back to stock, if you have to take the product back to the store/dealership, that way no one is the wiser.

Does anyone know of a Tune/er that has this option?
My only other question is just concern over engine longevity or long term damage by tuning/over clocking the engine to create much higher output??

Thank you all for your response in advanced.

Mike, thanks for your response. I was just watching your Leroy Brown vids. Awesome!

Does anyone know what exactly are the multiple ways in which ford determines flash counts?

Thanks.

Here's the thing, I don't think anyone here is going to help you defeat the counter. This isn't XDA. If you're willing to flash the car, know what it entails :)

PS: I am like you though, and love flashing my own custom android builds, simply because I can get sooo much more out of my phone vs stock. Look at it in the same light with your car.

Thanks Neodark. I guess in a way I did think of this forum as some form of XDA, lol. I thought, if flashing custom builds on a phone kicks ass, it should be that more fun with a car :) Alas, if something goes wrong with the phone you're only out a couple of hundred bucks vs a $35k mustang.

I still think a rom that resets the counter back to zero when going back to stock is a valid point. It would open the tune to a lot of folk on the fence re the warranty.

Thanks again for the reply , nice to find a fellow droider :)

You wouldn't be out 35k. Just the cost of the motor. ;)
