It is time for the original Pilot Super Sport tires on my 2017 GT350 to get replaced. One of the front tires is starting to bald as well as the tires are almost 7 years old, so time to go (they have 13.5K miles on them).

Given that I only drive the car on weekends for fun (no track duty) I am debating if I should go with the later MY Sport Cup 2s that came on the standard GT350 over the stock Pilot Super Sports that came on the earlier MY standard GT350 cars.

Looking for advice on if I should just stick with the original spec Pilot Super Sports or go with the later MY Sport Cup 2s. Any real world experience you can share on the Sport Cup 2s or comparison between the two tires would be appreciated.

Honestly if you’re not doing any track duty or corner carving fun then don’t spend the money on the SC2. The pilot super sports will do fine. Another options is the continental extreme contact. Great price and really good performance. Then you have the Pirelli PZero and if you really want to go all out you have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3r. Again it all depends on how much you want to spend and the amount of performance you want.

agree with last post. My 2 cents. Unless u track it don’t bother with sc2. I have a 20 with sc2. Changed over to super sports last year when they corded. Less tram-lining, less throwing rocks and will last longer. Haven’t really experienced a loss in handling since I’m not tracking it and this car is so capable.

Don't get the SC2's if you've been used to the SS. You will not like the tramlining and rock throwing. And if you're wondering about traction and handling, keep in mind that the GT350 Track Attack car's all had Super Sports on them, not SC2's. And they didn't seem to have any problems handling the road course.

The super sports wont stick like the Cup 2s. If your tracking the cup 2s will walk the Super Sports. But, If your not tracking I would not use the SC2s. The Goodyear tire is an alternative as well as others mentioned here

I track mine 5-6 times per year. Daily driver for me during non winter months. I just replaced the super sports on my ā€˜18. Read too much about how SC2’s were not a good tire for the street.

I took advantage of the Costco $150 off set of 4 Michelins. Talked with tire shop manager and they did not use any impact tools on my install. Very happy with cost and service.

The SC2 R compound tires are track tires that are DOT approved for road use and the Super Sports are not R compound tires. It is only natural that an R compound tire will have more grip than a street tire. Good luck getting more than about 5k miles from the R compounds if you drive them hard.

Thanks everyone for your inputs on this, it is much appreciated. You guys confirmed what I was initially thinking which was to just replace the tires with the OEM spec Pilot Super Sports that it originally came with. I figured I would check with the community here while this tire replacement window was open to see if there was any advantage to go Sport Cup 2’s, but it does not sound like it in my situation.
