Got this idea from an older thread. There is this SmartTOP module available for convertibles that allows for one touch operation etc. Well, this thing also has the ability to remember the last drive mode on key cycle or always switch to Sport+ or MyMode. Why not install it on a fastback?

Company says the needed connector is not available on fastbacks, which is true of course, but looking at pictures, it connects to one of the motors (motor 2 on driver’s side). From the schematics, all that this basically provides is a way for the module to piggyback for power, switch input, some sensor inputs and access to the MS-CAN network. I am thinking this thing should work just fine with only power and a patch into the MS-CAN network wherever (one such location is near the OBD II connector). Anyone ever try this?

I hate switching modes every time, even if it is just a double tap to go to MyMode. Just not sure if it is $350 worth to get one for an experiment that may or may not work.

They work great on the convertible. And not to split hairs but it doesn't automatically start in the last mode. It starts in the Normal mode and then steps itself to the mode the car was in when it was shut off. The dash indicates the stepping just as if you physically used the switch. Another thing that might be an issue is, if memory serves, all of the settings are done with the top control buttons.
I've never understood why no one ever made one for the coupe.

Right, shows the on-screen options with the button or connect it to a PC via a USB cable and change settings that way.

Nice, its goofy to be forced to change exhaust mode every time you start the car…

i usually switch to sport drive mode and track exhaust mode as soon as i get in the car…

so the smart top would do that for me automatically?

It returns to Sport mode automatically. I don't know about the exhaust. If that can be programed as a MyMode then, yes, it would return to that as long as that's what the car was in when turned off.
