Hello,

I am a new mustang owner of a 19 Mustang GT and I was curious if there are recommended or essentials tests people perform prior to modding/tuning the 5.0?
How many miles should I put on the engine before modding it? (5K+?)

So far I was recommended to perform a borescope & a compression test, please feel free to chime in or provide links to something you think would help!

Thank you.

This is a decent question because once you tune the chances of being denied warranty work is greater. After my experience and problems with this engine, it will probably stay stock until every bit of my 5/60k is used up. Tune resets the key count so there's no getting around it.

I would only modify if your ready to pony up for out of warranty maintenance costs. I've seen people throw superchargers on with less than 1k miles and have no issues though

Tests on a brand new car? Yeah... the real test is to just drive it. People worry too much. Drive it for a few thousand miles at least and if everything sounds normal and it drives fine, mod it.

There is no test to do to a brand new car. This isn't a car with 200k miles on it. A compression test? LOL

This;

If you get a nice, safe tune, you should have no issues as long as you run the correct fuel. A simple canned tune is pretty safe.

Who told you this?

You can have your oil tested by Blackstone Laboratory. They will let you know if you have an abnormal amount of metal shavings in the oil which could indicate a problem youd have down the road. Other than that it's up to you when you want to tune it.

If you just bought it enjoy the car until that warm fuzzy feeling goes away, then tune it and you'll get that feeling back...

I tested mine by running it to the redline a few times on the way home from the dealer. Seemed to be working just fine, so I threw a Whipple on it.
This site should have a "Whipple That B@*ch!!" meme by now. Something to be used as a standard answer for many a question posed here.

I just broke it in how they say to in the manual and used ceratec because I had the worst bbq tick ever (ceratec fixed it). then drove it hard for like 2000 miles over a few months to see if anything was going to break and also get used to the car, then tuned it.

i tuned my car with few hundred miles with 0 issues as of today, after first oil change i did get the typewritter tick only on cold engine starts. Ive been lucky with all my modified vechiles . so to answer your question i would say proper breaking period if your concern about it.
but why would i give advice if i didnt even do it myself.. Enjoy your car man dont stress on things you cant control @ 100%

Some pro engine builders like to start out with a "seasoned" block. Basically, one that has been run for a while. How long? Well how much salt do you like on your frys? (Everyone is different). If you are going to supercharge your car, then you should run the oil pump test. If it has an oil pump, then you should replace the gears inside the oil pump.

Been on a E85 tune since @ 750 miles. No issues, no worries and no looking back.
