Defrost usually works for me on my various cars. I have heard that clay bar and a cleaner wax helps out a bunch. Never tried it so I don't know how true that is.

Same concept as rainx

I have noticed something similar. It looks like a bunch of small squares that looks like a film. I can still see out of it well however. The Rear defrost works quite fast too!

Also in heavy rain, the water comes down the center of the rear window in a small river...pretty cool :)

Also in California and noticed this. I even has rainex treatment done. Didn't try the defroser except when it had fogged up a couple of nights. Once the car warmed up it seemed to go away.

Prefer Adams glass sealant over rain x. Clean and clay glass prior to application. Not much else one can do for such.

Rain X and defrost.

I've noticed I'm starting to have trouble seeing out of my car due to the thick film of salt covering it. I haven't even gotten the plates on it yet. Be grateful you only have rain to deal with.

Try a Rain-X treatment and see if it improves?
i bought my car, drove it home, applied rain-X to the windows, all of them, and have never had visibility problems. The stuff is made with magic, i think!

The "film" the OP was talking about may have been haze on the window caused by the temp differences from the inside to the outside of the car in high humidity, and could have been easily fixed by using the handy dandy rear window defogger.
