Hello:

To a lesser degree, PP1 springs and sway bars are a help.

Steeds sells bushings for the rear end that help with alignment. Be sure your vert subframe (it is like a heavy sheet metal covering over the rear suspension that is bolted in multiple places to reinforce the rear) bolts are tight.

@ Joe, if you still need help - Rodney can help support you, he has had (2) convertibles & is well-versed in the vehicle dynamics of the S550!

No need for anything if its just street use unless you are street racing or super hard launches just make sure have all the PP bracing and maybe vertical links which I find alone keep my measly 350 ft lb planted and stable.

Hi S550HPP
Thanks for your quick response, much appreciated
My car is a stock 2017 GT convertible PP1 manual transmission, 3.70 gears
I recently installed subframe bushing inserts, alignment pins, and differential bushing inserts.
Still hoppin
Steeda adjustable rear shocks (single or double? not sure), have been recommended, currently OEM shocks
Also vertical links and adjustable toe links have been recommended
As you know, the verts have a substantial two piece subframe connector
I have to arm twist my comptroller for upgrade funds so I have to choose wisely
I do some hard launches (well, no yet, too much hoppin) I'm also wondering if these transmissions can take power shifting.
I know this is a boatload to think about, but I surely appreciate any advice!

Here’s Rodney’s expert feedback on another convertible build he recently assisted with internally at Steeda:

Over the past decade, we’ve set up numerous S550 convertible Mustangs, and Rodney himself has owned and built two Steeda-equipped GT convertibles—so he knows exactly what works best.

(Assuming your car is a non-Performance Pack without MagneRide suspension)

Convertible-Specific Suspension Considerations:

  • The convertible has a large underbody brace that limits space for IRS braces, making kits with these components not compatible.
  • Due to additional bracing and reinforced sheet metal, the convertible is heavier and already sits lower than the coupe.
Recommended Suspension & Chassis Upgrades:

✅ Steeda Mustang Minimum Drop Lowering Springs - Linear (2015-2024) – Our go-to spring for convertibles, used by Rodney on his 2022 GT Convertible.
✅ Steeda Mustang Camber Plates (2015-2024) – Ensures proper alignment once lowered.
✅ Steeda Mustang Subframe Alignment & Support Kit (2015-2024) – Eliminates subframe deflection for better handling.
✅ Steeda Mustang Adjustable Rear Toe Links (2015-2024) + Billet Aluminum Vertical Links - Polyurethane Bushings (2015-2024) – Improves rear suspension stability and responsiveness.
✅ Steeda Adjustable Front & Rear Sway Bars With Endlinks (2015-2024) – Enhances cornering performance.
✅ Steeda Extreme G-Trac K-Member Brace (2015-2024) + Convertible Low-Profile Jacking Rails (2015-2024) – Adds chassis rigidity.
✅ Classic Design Concepts Mustang Black Lightbar (2015-2024) – Provides additional stiffness and a bold visual upgrade.

For Maximum Performance & Comfort:

If you want to take your suspension upgrades even further, our Steeda Mustang Pro Active Shocks, Struts & Springs DIFM Assembled Kit (2015-2023) with Minimum Drop Springs and optional Steeda Camber Plates will dramatically improve ride quality, handling, and highway stability.

Rodney has personally run this setup on his last two convertibles, and it’s a game-changer.

Road conditions and how you drive 90% of the time should dictate the mods path, if any. Just watched the Kenya WRC and was blown away at the suspension performance .....sure each corners costs $60K but impressive nonetheless. I need those dampers for my streets haha.

Hello CVCashmere! Thanks for your response and feedback. The car is a PP1 and while installing subframe bushing inserts and differential bushing inserts and alignment pins, made sure that substantial subframe connector for convertibles was tight. When money ahead I want to do Steeda adjustable shocks (single or double?), vertical links and adjustable toe links
The sixth gen car is all new to me, coming off a 65 and a 94, both of which I miss, but the 6gen is a helluva car....
Thanks again for your feedback and advice, the entire Mustang community is awesome and so incredibly helpful , without whom I'd be very lost!
