Lately I have had a new noise develop from my rear springs any time I hit bumps. I listed what I have installed on the rear end below. Yesterday I took off the rear wheels and sprayed some white lithium on the spring isolators. When I did this I also noticed there was a new tiny gap between the bottom of the steeda subframe bushing and the subframe (maybe an 1/8th of an inch) on the front. I torqued that subframe bolt and its still tight (129), not sure if that bushing needs to touch or if it just keeps the stock rubber subframe bushing from squishing out. I dont think that is where the noise is coming from as it seems to come from both sides. Subframe seems to be solid, but the noise hasnt gone away. Its quite loud and noticeable.

I have a 16 GT PP with:
Vogtland Sport Plus Springs
Steeda Diff bushings (red)
Steeda subframe bushings
Steeda Subframe alignment dowels
SR Vert Links
I also have 20x10 AM wheels in the rear but I don't think that really matters in this case.

Any thoughts?

Most likely a noise from the rear spring area is due to an isolator, as it's clear you know. Are you certain the springs' pigtails are seated correctly in the isolators? I always peak/feel through the little holes on the bottom of the spring seat to be sure.

Edit: another thought is that the spring coils may be rubbing one another. It’s tough to diagnose, but you can try wrapping a coil or two with a rubberized material and see if that helps.

I swore my noise was from the rear springs but turned out to be the vertical links. If yours are delrin try loosening, cleaning and adding lithium grease or if you still have the oem ones swap them out and see if the noise goes away.

The clean and grease worked for me but a month to 6 weeks later the noise came back.

I agree that it could be vertical links especially if derlin. I had same issue with my BMRs and ended changing out the lower derlin with a spherical.

Thanks everybody. I will check the vertical links when I get home today. I have SR performance ones which use delrin bushings.

My springs have been on the car for about 2 years and are seated properly so I did find it odd that the noise just started up on that, but makes sense if its the vertical links. I will follow up later once I can get them off again.

On my lunch break I ran out and grabbed a can of silicon spray, hit the vertical link bolts and 99% of the squeak is gone. I'm sure if I take them off and spray them down properly it will all be taken care of.

Appreciate the help!

Appreciate your feedback. I think it's telling me something about "degrees of freedom" that vertical links actually need a little freedom in.

I had BMR spherical/delrin combo vertical links and had a terrible time with noise. Lubricating them helps. Eventually my shop modified them so they would accept grease better, but in the end I wasn't comfortable with an aftermarket that someone else modified.

I ended up switching to Steeda poly vertical links and no noise. It added some compliance to the rear suspension also.

I think that the delrin and spherical links are better really for drag racing and the poly versions are better for road race applications. This was from a conversation with Steeda at the time and I tend to agree with it. Some compliance can be a good thing sometimes.
