Rear Main Seal Weep - Solved

Have a slightly damp area on right side of trans case. New trans done 8K miles ago. mechanic says it's rear Main Seal Weep. Warranty expires in 3K miles.

Dealer ignored it.

Something to plan for and how much would it cost approx to do a rear Main Seal or should I just buy extended warranty.

Had the car on a lift cleaned the area thoroughly and discovered a chunk out of top oil pan edge and apparent cracking near trans interface....trans was R&R twice, plus a new one. Looks like a prybar was wedged in for some stupid reason or it chuckled out on its own possibly when they did the new engine mount warranty.

The tranny has to be pulled back out again to get to the seal; I don't know how many labor hours that is but it's a big job and will be expensive. Plus the rear main seal has a reputation for warping and developing a leak if it is not carefully installed perfectly. MAP Performance sells a rear main and housing that is more robust:

If you've got another 3k miles to warranty I'd get it done before then. I had to get mine replaced and do not recall how much it cost, but it was not cheap.

I know Trans R&R is 8 hrs book time plus the hardware and that book time.

After cleaning the case it looks like a chunked oil pan edge, and possibly some cracking have cleaned it and will get it back on the lift in 1500 miles to check.

Upon further inspection and few thousand miles cleaned up that area that looks chinked out is actually gasket maker seepage and the damp spot was from a leaking engine mount that blew back.

“Leaking engine mount” makes no sense.

Some motor and transmission mounts have hydraulic fluid in them, to assist with damping. Is that what was occurring here? One had cracked or given way and was leaking, yes?

My driver side engine mount tore and was leaking also.

I was never concerned still under warranty just monitoring it.

Yes I had a blow right side liquid filled mount replaced under warranty blew oil 8" X 3' strip down belly pan, after it leaked out of the pan slit, and misted that part of the block.
