i have a really silly question that I need help with. When I measure the oil in my 2017 one side of the dipstick shows a lower level than the other side.

On one side the oil is one set of x marks below the upper hole but when I flip it over the oil level is a tad above the upper hole.

I measured it 7 or 8 times and the levels are never the same- always follows the same pattern of one side below and one at the hole.

So- am I full or low? I did not do the oil change- it was done about 300 mikes ago by the dealer

Thanks!

I always go with the higher reading on the dipstick for consistency, with 10 quarts of oil in your engine, you don't have anything to worry about while you are registering something on the dipstick.

Thank you. With all this talk about engines using a quart of oil every 2 or 300 mikes I was getting paranoid. All seems well

It is among the funkier dipsticks to read. Basically if you see oil in the bottom hole you're ok to sleep at night.
