Raxiom Unit in the Works?

Haha the reason why people don't just use the premium bezel for a 2 din setup is the fact that the premium climate controls don't play nice with the manual climate system in the base models without MFT. I am saying that if a company made a bezel just like the premium model but with base model climate controls that would be perfect.

the tomtop unit sells with basically that exact bezel right? it might be a smidge too large, but it would be easy to fill in the gap around a 2DIN.

i just dont see how you are going to get a unit in there even with the sync gone. the problem is there isnt that large a variety of double din nav units out there. and all the ones i have seen are full depth.

of course, even if it stuck out an inch, that could probably be lived with. i need to go measure. i am itching to 3-d print something i could attach to the tomtop bezel that stuck out a bit and let me run something standard.

hmm... this is a pretty shallow double din unit. have no idea if its any good or not, and i cant find an exact depth measurement, but its clearly a couple inches shallower than the standard double din radio

edit - its 4.7 inches deep. that is going to be pushing it. I think the current tomtop unit is about an inch and a half deep, and it comes within half an inch of the sync unit i think. That unit is only an inch or so thick. so i think we only have 3.5 to 4 inches back there. the 4.7 inch unit is going to need another half an inch or maybe a whole inch to clear the plugs coming out the back.

time to go in there and measure.

edit - Nevermind all this, i knew there was something i had forgotten. The circuit board actually extends upwards covering the left and right of the center console behind the base model 4.2 inch display. Those are the areas where you can press all the phone buttons etc. You would have to cut those sections of the circuit board off. Possible, but that is getting into some serious hacking.

Yes I know I'm not saying it's the raxiom product. Just referring to the last couple pages where this product was mentioned. Thanks though. Pretty sure the raxiom product will be made in China too just like 85% of everything else.

Anyone that can develop a quality aftermarket unit for the S550 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can sit back and print money! I'm surprised it's taken this long.
