Who gives a shit about 8th mile? There are 10.5 slicks in the low 6s 1/4 at 230s mph. Where is there a radial that size doing that? Ive yet to see it anywhere on yellowbullet.
Yawnnnn

Nitrous car on radials went 3s yesterday..Yea it 8th mile but 10.5 slick guys

Well I decided on getting a set or Hoosier slicks and a set of et street R's in 305/45/17's and try both this coming up season, starting to get to damn cold for any more racing this season where I live

Time to revisit this one a bit. So maybe the drag radials and nitrous in a manual car wasn't the best thing. lol My transmission is in the process of getting rebuilt/worked on by Ben Calimer after some issues started cropping up - nothing too major, but enough.

So now I'll be looking to a slick setup. Wheel/tire recommendations in the 17" area?

I'm going to be running slicks this upcoming spring myself especially after seeing this thread! If I get these Hoosiers for the rear what should I run upfront?? Can't run radials up front with a bias ply slick don't want to hit a wall. Do I need skinnies??

You don't need skinnies. But it'll make the car faster because of less rotating mass.

I always heard that bias ply and radials don't mix , if I could get away with it id run my regular street tires and rims up front but worried about the mix

To a point. I've mixed them, you just have to drive the car and not be twitchy when the rear end wobbles a hair. Think goosfraba..

I also have a set of 28" Hoosier slicks and 26" 275 DR's to play with next season. While I'm not certain that I will be faster on the slick than I am on the DR (not considering the taller tire height) I just might be without the shift to 4th and possibly being able to load the car a bit more on the line with the sidewall giving a hair of lee-way.

At this point traction is definitely not a concern in my auto car, DR's are cutting 1.5's. More than likely, if the 28" slicks work out I will get a 28" tall drag radial.

Slicks just aren't what my car needs right now and may not ever be as important to me as a big power NA/roots blown/NO2 car.

I run NHRA and IHRA Super Stock. Car is faster and quicker on radials as long as the track is good. I have both and switch to slicks if needed....slicks are faster if you're spinning on radials. And I don't mean spinning, I mean the tire turns a half turn off the line = you lose.

I have news for some of you, the Mustang is not a Top Fuel dragster, lol. The only reason to run slicks on a normal car is because you treat the clutch pedal like an on/off switch (as you should). Autos definitely should run a radial.....I just wish radials weren't so heavy.

Radials only go so far in ets then slicks are the only method of getting down the track. Both have their places. Also some people dont like the fact you cant really feather traction back on radials, which you can on slicks. Some of its preference some is application and some is how fast you're already going. I run in nmra usually. I dont miss nhra very much. Ever thought of switching?
