R allocation call, but one small problem

You don't have to title a car to sell it before it hits the dealership... You could make a simple arrangement between you, the buyer and the dealership. As long as the dealership gets what they want, they usually don't care.

This arrangement is nothing new and it has been going on since the 350 order banks opened. More than a few 15MY 350's switched hands this way.

As for choice... I have an R on order and will get the rear seat add for my kids and take it out on track days. Sell the tech and get the R... It's that simple.

You will kick yourself in the rear many times in the future if you don't.

No, needs to be titled to you for legal ownership in order to sell. You can arrange something with someone but that person, technically, will be buying a "used" vehicle and will be the "second owner".

In South Carolina a car does not have to be titled in your name in order to be resold.

I believe that as soon as the dealer understands that you're just flipping it without even technically buying it - they will do their best to sell it to someone else at a higher price.

The deal for $5K over seems almost too good to be true. Do you know for sure that they actually have an allocation for an R? I've been burned twice before. :(

I agree. Whoever you sell it to is going to want a title in hand or to buy it directly from a dealership.

It's a very interesting problem to have. Personally I'd pass it to someone still looking for an R like FPCV8YO, mrdc, or GT P-tree.

For what it's worth, I have been told by a local dealer (which I did not purchase from) that the manufacturer is VERY strict on the concept of "brokered sales". Ford does not want dealerships selling to brokers who basically buy the car, do not title it, and then resell it as a new vehicle. This is understandable from FoMoCo's perspective, as they at least have some measure of control over their franchised dealerships but would have no control over third parties reselling the car as new.

I mentioned this idea to the dealer I bought my car from, and he did acknowledge that Ford didn't want them doing it but also said that the worst that could happen would be that they might withhold their next allocation. The local dealer said otherwise. He seemed to be under the impression that Ford could yank their entire franchise away from them. That did seem a little harsh, but either way, it seems Ford has expressed at least some form of punitive action for dealers participating in the concept of brokered sales.

That is not my I am implying at all based on your post and where did I mention anything about a dealers license?

In your post you stated that this car "needs to be titled to you for legal ownership in order to sell" and that is not the case.

This individual can purchase this R model without titling the car and can then resell this same car to another interested individual and not as you have suggested that he has to title the car in his name.

What part of that seems super shady to you other than the fact that he wants to make a profit reselling this car after he purchases it?

Thanks guys, a lot to think about. Called the dealer back today to confirm the allocation, which he did and let him know I would have an answer by Friday. My main intent is to use this as a mechanism to "lower" the purchase price of my current GT350. Just not sure I am willing to take the risk. I am confident I can resell for at least what I pay, but really do not feel like going thru the process for that.

If your main intent is to resell for profit, you are likely asking for advice in the wrong place.

I would either buy the R and add rear seats or pass the deal on to the next guy in line (or someone on this forum who has been searching for a reasonable R for months and months)
