Varex valved system is super quiet with the valves closed, but you cant go WOT with the valves closed due to too much backpressure (atleast when you are boosted) and its insanely loud with the valves open without cats.

+1 for the Varex. I have the full 3" kit. And even with the unrestricted X pipe, the system is pretty quiet with the valves shut.

I feel like my 3" Kooks with green cats is some what tame. Its quieter than the active exhaust (with an h-pipe) it had before.

After a year + delay, I am finally ready to pull the trigger on an exhaust. Are there any newer/updated opinions on the quietest 3in exhaust combination for a 2017 GT.

I am going to fit GT500 headers, cats and 2.75in downpipes at the same time.

Here's something you can try.

Go on eBay/Amazon and buy one of those DNA Motoring axlebacks

Replace the imitation Flowmaster muffler with a Dynomax Superturbo, specifically something like this:

I'm doing something very similar on my car but using a Dynomax Ultraflow. I want it quiet-ish but I want it as free-flowing as possible. Should have it back from the fab shop soon.

Honestly, a custom system might make the most sense. Borla 60661 resonator with big 3"in/out QuietFlow/Magnaflow/Borla XS mufflers and custom bent mid pipes + tips.

Maybe I'm getting too old for this game, but I haven't heard a quiet 3" S550 catback yet.

Check out Solo Performance. They are known for Stealth and Quiet kits. Not sure what they offer for the GT, but I'm sure they can give you some guidance.

+1 on this. Originally installed an x-pipe and Kooks 3” axle backs. Ran that for maybe 2 years. Wife refused to ride in the car and most of my fillings became loose along with a never ending migraine.

Removed the x-pipe and Kooks and installed the Solo Performance Mach Thunder cat back. Migraine gone, got my teeth fixed, and my wife now loves riding along. It is plenty quiet and comfortable while driving normally and brings the thunder when I go WFO. AND, i get plenty of compliments on the sound and look. Not that i care much about that, but it has solved the “modify the exhaust” issue that so many of us feel needs to be done.

Not the cheapest and not the most expensive, but one that i personally like and recommend if you are interested in 3”.

I contacted xforce regarding their closed valve mode specifically and they told me the system can be used on a daily basis like that with no issues. I measured exit diameter outlet that works in closed mode and used that as a starting argument for that discussion. They basically told me that yes, the diameter is smaller than minimal 5.0 piping, but if you take into account stock muffler restrictions with baffles etc. then it is on par with stock and they stand behind their design.

I can recomend Varex as well. It is stock quiet with closed valves and very reasonable in open valve mode. I can drive it with open valves long term with no irritation from undesired frequencies in the cabin.
