Hi all,

Apologies if this has been been asked before, but I've been searching and can't find this specifically.

I have a 2015 model GT and considering some NA upgrades. Been speaking to a garage who recommend a 2018+ manifold with a CAI and a tune. I already have a cat back touring exhaust by Borla. Looking to keep the sound nice and deep and love the sound I have.. would prefer a bit louder but don't want to introduce popping and high end stuff.

I guess what is putting me off is I really don't want that induction noise from a CAI and also partly worried about less effective filtering of some of these CAI... Especially open box.

Some reading and research shows there are closed box options readily available but I'm still worried about the induction noise and would rather keep stock filtering.

So my question. It seems like the 2018 stock filter benefits from improved airflow compared to the 2015 which I think is due to the the inlet pipe as the filter is actually identical. If I were to stick with my stock filter box and filter would a replacement inlet tube at least help the 2018 manifold a bit more? I was considering the airaid tube

https://www.airaid.com/blog/airaid-modular-intake-tube-for-2015-2016-2017-ford-mustang-5-0l/

So basically:

Stock 2015 airbox
Airaid tube
Stock throttle body
2018 manifold
Stock 2015 headers
Borla catback touring exhaust

Then a tune

Would this tube connect up ok? I'm assuming so as the filter box and throttle body are stock.

Any thoughts?

Have you already deleted the sound tube? I don't notice much difference in induction noise between various OEM vs aftermarket CAI systems.

Thanks for the reply. No still have the stock sound tube at the moment.

I may be worrying about nothing as haven't put a CAI on a car before. But here's an example of what I'm trying to avoid

I have always decided against it as the consensus seemed to be it's a waste of money for 5hp. It's just my garage is recommending it so really looking to see if I can avoid and go with a better tube instead.

Use the GT350 manifold and it's cai and never look back.

Use the Ford Performance 3 tune or get someone like @Wengerd Performance to tune it.

One nice thing about the GT350 mani is it will run just fine with the stock tune as long as you use the stock throttle body and CAI. The stock air intake or CAI works very well.

If funds are tight you can do mani then wait and do tune.

Many thanks for the input. I'm off to see the garage and will see what they say as well. Tbh I did start with looking at the gt350 kit. Still very curious if I can use the stock '15 intake and just hookup a better tube though

You can but there is no gain to be had. The manifold is the bottle neck on gen 2

Yeah that's what I'm trying to explore.

Gen3 manifold upgrade for my gen2 coyote but keep the gen2 intake

That does work but you need a tune with with that manifold so might as well upgrade to the gen3 air box and tube.
