Quick poll: based on sound alone, do you prefer axleback or catback systems?

So I've learnt that there isn't much of a bottleneck in the current exhaust system (aside from headers possibly and a heavy resonator). So advice is to pick one based on sound.

So, I know it's personal opinion but what sound do you guys prefer? Axleback or catback and why?

My guess is that you might need a catback just so you can get rid of the giant factory resonator to get much sound out of it. But I could definitely be wrong.

I'd go catback just to get rid of that rifle case of a resonator. And there would be no cutting involved.

Even if your on a tight budget you can just purchase an x or h pipe and replace the resonator section and get good sound. That's a 250$ purchase n easy install. Better sound than just going axel back with resonator still in

I'm ordering ARH full system 1 7/8 long tube catted headers to h pipe. If I'm guna spend money I better get power! Imo save up n go big

Oops hadn't even though of that. Is that pretty accepted that X or h pipe will sound betterthan axleback?

I don't know about what sounds better... that's like saying what food tastes better... pretty personal... but I love the sound of my Roush axle-back. It's perfect for me.

Anyone consider just taking their cars to a muffler shop and getting high flow mufflers and an X/H pipe installed? If there is no large power gains to be had what's the point in spending $1xxx on a catback alone? I am most likely going to go this route for that reason.

I think that'll end up being my route. Planning on my longtime exhaust guy to do it, when I can find some extra time. Especially seeing all the band connections going on under there. Ill have em weld up alot of those connections, at the same time of completing it with an axleback. Currently have the LP reso delete with stock mufflers for now. I like it ditches the flex pipe in addition to the reso.

Go Catback...Save your money going to muffler shops.. DIY..Most of the catbacks are direct fit bolt on.. no weld or cutting needed...

I like catback with x pipes. The sound of the x pipe vs h pipe is so much better in my option.

I have an Ecoboost so no need for an x-pipe but I am cutting off the mufflers and welding on MagnaFlow mufflers. I do this kind of work myself so the cost is only the mufflers and a couple of tips about $175. Have been doing this stuff myself for many years.

I'm gonna be honest. I was fully committed to doing a cat-back, but I bought the roush AB first. Before installation, i was for sure I was going to add a x-pipe as well. However, the Roush AB sounds amazing, and it's got great throttle sound, idle, and still amazing at WOT even with the suitcase attached.

I left it with just the AB, and I'm happy with it.

Can you humour a noob. Wouldn't buying an ab,then a cat back be a waste of money? What would you do with the AB after you put on the cb? Sell it?
