....okay, not my first mustang, third and all modified . But my current 2015 Stang Premium Package 6-speed auto has a few mods, a JLT hot air...err, cold air intake, BBK 1 3/4" headers, x-pipe with no cat and a custom tune by Rick Fast. So, my question is what will stop the insane droning at speed? I will eventually get a full exhaust but what will help? I'd probably have it by now but my first hobby is guns, I shoot a lot and it takes up time and money. I need to fix this drone :headbonk: Any suggestion is a good suggestion :)

Mine drones around 2k RPM. Which is unfortunate because that's exactly at highway cruising speed in 6th, generally. That being said, it wasn't horrible, and I got used to it. For me the drone is 1850 RPM - 2100 RPM. So if I wanted to fix mine, swapping the gears would probably do it, because it would move me out of that droning band at cruising speed. Just isn't worth the money to me, though.

Point is, if your droning occurs during a narrow RPM band, you could change your driving habits, change gears, or swap your gears, and move it someplace less annoying.

I also have an auto, I installed a Kooks catback with H pipe. I love how it looks and sounds when I'm on it. It's really a deep rumble at idle and it's great there. The problem comes in when I drive around town in normal mode. The auto wants to skip to 5th and 6th gear when you are over 30mph. It's saving gas of course but the engine is lugging at around 1250rpm to 1700rpm. That is drone territory booming thru the car. The easy solution is to switch to Sport+ mode and the trans now keeps the rpm up above the 1700 level by not shifting above 4th gear unless I get to highway speeds. I don't like the gas mileage I get by using Sport+ all the time so I'm also looking for a way to get rid of the drone.

Stock mufflers? Adding resonantors right after the X pipe helps a lot.

The car when it drones is trying to tell you you need to downshift, 6th ands ~2K is not an appropriate gear for that speed. Just because it runs and goes down the road @ 60 in 6th doesn't mean that that's the gerar you should be in.

Do you guys drone with factory mufflers and headers? Please let me know I was going in that direction. I already have an catback that produces low freq in that range 1.5 -2K rpm and wanted to try headers with stock mufflers.

Any other gear and you're correct. Stop trying to convince people that they shouldn't be in 6th gear on the highway unless they're going 75+ mph. Unless you're in a hilly area, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to be in 6th over 60 mph. I can and I have 3.31 gears. It's even easier with 3.73s. If your exhaust drones between 1750 and 2000 rpm, fix the exhaust. You should definitely be able to cruise at that engine speed.

For me, 70 is 2k-ish in 6th (I have the 3.31 gears). And there's no way in hell I'm going to cruise in 5th on the highway at that speed. That's burning extra gas for no good reason.

Your options would be adding another resonator or muffling body to the system, adding Hemholtz chambers, swapping the X for one of our resonated X's or changing the catback section completely to a new aftermarket one.
