So I plan on ordering an ecoboost premium coupe but I am on the fence on the performance pack. I'm all for stiffer sportier ride but living in the northeast I would have to drive my car in the winter and I imagine this being rather difficult with the summer tires. I may opt out of the pp and just go for the 3.73 rear. What benefits would this add over the stock? What would the cons be?

3.73 rear is not available on the Ecoboost, even with the PP.

I don't live in a climate similar to yours, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't think the PP features other than tires will make a difference. I don't think all seasons are the best for snow anyways. I would just get a set of winter tires for when you need them and just swap them back when you don't.

If you can't afford a second set of wheels, I would consider just buying a second set of tires and having a tire shop swap them when you need them.

Good advice. I had a set of winter tires and wheels while living in Japan and Europe. If wheel cost is a consideration, just buy a set of steelies and mount the winter tires on them.

DHG 1078 , even though you live in So Cal, you are 100% correct. I live in Montreal, Canada, real winters, real snow, real cold. All seasons are completely useless in the winter. Actually in my province ( state) winter tires are the law from Dec 15th until March 15th because there were just too many accidents because of all season tires in real winter conditions. Also I buy Pirelli Winter tires, more expensive but its worth it. All season tires are for people in the southern- mid US states, but if you have real winters then buy real winter tires.

fair enough--i guess my question is if I don't get the PP what differences would the 3.55 offer over the stock.

It would offer better acceleration, at the cost of a reduced top speed and reduced gas mileage. Granted the only way you would notice the top speed difference is if you do like a standing mile race or something like that.

Top speed in Norway 68mph. Top speed near me 56mph. I'll just take all the acceleration I can get - screw top speed :) (And gas is ridiculously expensive anyway so a few liters here or there won't matter much... I'm used to bleeding for my car)

Summer only tires mean just that: summer only. Winter tires are the way to go in snow.

Just curious why the Perillis vs something like a Blizzak? I have always sworn by Blizzak, but am certainly open to different ideas (upstate NY so we get real winters here too).

I've owned Blizzak WS-60 and WS-70, and they're fine tires. On my current vehicle I went with Michelin X-Ice 3's and so far they're the best winter tire I've owned in 20+ years.

The ecoboost torque curve is so wide and flat why waste the gear on it?
A lot of truth to that. When the torque peak is at 2200 RPM you really don't need to spin the motor. And believe me, short rear gears do hurt fuel economy. The difference between 3.15s and 3.55s in the real world is probably at least 2 mpg, maybe 3.
