Someone bumped into me and cause paint damage on the rear passenger quarter panel and bumper. I had the damage repaired and the repair went well, but now my HD antenna is barely working. Never had a problem before the repair. Is there any reason the repair might have caused this? I thought maybe the antenna was connected to the bumper and the repairman forgot to reconnect it. Or, they pulled a fuse and never reset it? Thoughts? Can't find anything online.

The antenna should run up to the roof "fin" or "bubble" depending on which model year S550. That contains the circuit board for Sirius/HD signals. Earlier models had the bubble, later had the shark fin.

What type of rear damages did you have - cosmetic bumper cover issues or sheet metal replacement (rear 1/4's, trunk lid, etc)? More info would help.

If the shop had to mess around with the trunk lid at all, the harness that goes from the kid to the body harness could be part of the issue you're having.

The issue could also be entirely unrelated and coincidental too. Check this thread regarding the issues with the roof antenna:

If OP does not have Sirius isn’t the antenna part of the rear window. Also doesn’t the HD radio use the same antenna as the FM/AM one. I seem to reading that somewhere.

Hi all. Thanks. The damage was completely cosmetic. No dents - just paint. about 3 square inches top of the bumper to the bottom of the rear quarter. They did remove the bumper. I was fairly sure the antenna did not run to the bumper or body back there, so I thought maybe they had to pull a fuse for some reason and never reset it. Real mystery. I also read that the antenna did run to the rear window. Never had a problem before this repair even after the accident.
