Pulling Away in Second Gear.

Page 198 of the manual (yes, I read the whole thing!) states;

" The above figures were achieved using second gear to pull away from a stationary position while on level ground. On vehicles with manual transmission, we recommend you use second gear to pull away from a stationary position while on level ground."

This is a new one on me, so I'm curious - is anyone out there doing this? :shrug:

Was referencing fuel economy. Its their way of bending the official figures posted. All cars will get a slight decrease in fuel usage if pulling away often in second, if the car is capable of it.

The 2016 Mustang brochure bent the rules a bit too.
The best fuel economy was shown large but the small print indicated that the EB figs were based on a manual and the GT figs on an auto

always do this as a matter of habit - went on an eco-driving course previously and 2nd - 4th - 6th was the suggested changes.

Although in the current car (and 'stang when it gets here) I figure a lot of 2nd to 6th shifts

I use to drive lorries and we always pulled away in 2nd gear, maybe as the engine is a rather large lump in the Mustang it's ok for that to.

I still don't understand why MPG is better for the auto in the GT but much worse on the EB?! Anyone have a good stab at why?

Torque. Plenty at low revs in the V8. Need to spin the turbo up in the EB.

Interesting... I usually only start from 2nd if the vehicle is still rolling ever so slowly. Otherwise 1st from a dead stop.

I've started from a dead stop in 2nd once or twice before somewhat unintentionally and it involves a little too much clutch slipping for my comfort, to be doing on a regular basis.

Ditto, first was just for fully loaded steep hill pull away.

Just told you the reason, bigger engine, it's norm if you drive a truck.

I pull away in second all the time. Often miss gears going through the box as well.
