In answer to my own question it seems there are more threads on the uk forum than other on this Kristian87 had this problem. Have you had it fixed Kristian?

Gotta say, it would really wind me up if I get it. Its a great feature but must just be an embarrassment when it looks like that. Someone may laugh and I would not like that.

Update (of sorts).

I spoke to the manager of my dealership today and asked about my part on order...

Apparently still on back order. He speculated that they had potentially identified a problem (wonky pony) and ceased production. So we could be waiting a while :(

The parts are available because my dealer has replaced my distorted drivers side Mustang pony puddle light.

It was mentioned that the current part uses a paper template and a replacement part is being designed.

He speculated...
Think I mentioned it in here but when I had mine done the service guy said one of the techs had been on a course the day before and he confirmed Ford definitely knew about it and were sorting it.

Good news/bad news... so the ones they replaced on my car is still the old paper design... doomed to faill again sometime soon... if I'm lucky Ill get another pair within my 14 months of warranty that I have left:D

I'm suspicious that the failed ones are all trying to look like the MFUK logo.
 I do recall one looking almost exactly like that too!

Just had my driver's side lamp replaced here in Australia. Same story - had to visit the dealership twice because a photo wasn't acceptable (although after some grumpiness on my part, they finally did accept a "just drop past when you're passing" for the 1st visit). It was the first one they had seen and they had a good laugh. Maybe now they've seen their first one, they might take the owner's word for it next time.

I terms of the cause: apart from the US docks, mine hasn't seen snow or cold weather, didn't know the mirrors folded (electric or manual??), mirrors won't have been heated (don't even know whether they have heaters), haven't used any high pressure washing (in fact they've probably hardly been wet).

My only conclusion is that it is caused by the shock of the door closing as the driver's door has probably been operated 5-10 times as frequently as the passengers.

It is a mystery why we're not hearing this story from the USA.

steerage250 Very peculiar indeed. I fold my mirrors in/out around 4 times a day on average, I jetwash my car every week, my car's been through both hail, heavy rain, and intense sun (we've had all 3 in the last month... good ol' england!) and I have not had this issue at all (touch wood!)

(Mirrors fold electrically, button but above the window buttons).

I think what people have found as the issue is that the Mustang Cut-out is paper and as the heat on the light stays on for longer periods of time, eventually it melts the paper, hense why Ford are currently working on a more robust pony lamp that doesn't cause this issue.

Ian

you are, but not as bad
just look on the US section on here, its am interesting one, and for me with the Yanks as there are 3 different mirrors you can get, would be interesting to find out the % of which Pony lights affected for each different mirror
On the UK ones, only one mirror
the US
standard
blind spot mirror (or they on the UK ones)?
and the BLIS mirror which is like $70 a puddle lamp
Also the US mirrors are a lot smaller, which could make a difference?
But this light was on the 2014 Mustangs, was there any issues?

Manders - slightly off topic, but been meaning to ask, do your mirrors both fold in the same amount? I notice you have a slightly later car with a slightly different mirror design (3 raised lines). Just wondering if they addressed this issue?
