Puddle lights

I know the puddle light issue is well documented, but is there a permanent fix? Or do I just have to resign myself to buying new ones every year or so?

Correct, the early models had the issue. Ford did have a habit of replacing like for like though so some ppl did get repeat issues but if u specifically ask for the redesigned ones you'll b fine. The good ones have a smaller pony

I got my original puddle lights changed under warranty. The new ones are physically different.
