Just delivered and surprised to see factory front cover.. all pics that ProTorque has published show a billet front cover…spoke with shop that’s going to do the install and was told circle d stopped using billet covers on their 10r80 converters also… reason is they were getting stuck in the crank…anyone have any input on this?

Spoke to ProTorque this morning and they have a billet front cover in the works so looks like this is going back.

Also found out that Circle D will be rereleasing billet front covers sometime in January..

When my converter went back to Circle D last winter to be freshened up, I inquired about upgrading to the billet cover. I was told that due to the design of the 10r80 converter, there was no advantage to the billet front. The price was reasonable and they were willing but I was told I'd be wasting my money.

Can I ask, why exactly did you have to return your Circle "D" converter back to their shop?
Truthfully... I didn't have to. I purchased it used, though they claimed it had never been installed. I decided that the minimal amount that they charge was well worth having it checked, freshened, updated, and tweaked for my setup (which has since changed). If memory serves me correctly, the lack of need for the billet front had to do with how the lockup clutch applies in the 10R80 converter vs most others.

That makes sense. I am glad they can tailor the convert to individual applications. Are you going to keep the high stall? are you driving on the street or strip or both?

Still hasn’t gone in the car. Ongoing work in progress. My twin turbo application will benefit greatly, just not sure I can tolerate it in the street. Opinions on street-ability seem to be mixed.
