Thanks for that explanation Bob and Hybrid. Might be worth considering as an extra layer of protection. I'm coming from over 20 years in white cars which disguise defects well, whereas the red, I suspect, will admit to any blemish.

Hi all,

Just signed up so I could ask for some advice on getting paint protection on my Mustang. My GT arrives in July (hopefully, already been delayed from April). Looking to get paint protection and interior protection for the first time. The bats are bad up here in the NT and I want to protect it and have that nice glossy shine. I've got 2 options really, dealer provided and the 1 opti coat dealer in Darwin.

The dealer is pushing their Fusion products and are offering interior, exterior and tint for $2375. I've uploaded the flyer they've made for their Mustang customers. http://tinypic.com/r/s6sos6/9 I haven't tried to negotiate that price with the dealer yet.

Just spoke to the only opti coat dealer in Darwin. He said he would do opti coat pro+ exterior and wheels and opti guard on the interior for $1100. Initially he said $1210 but agreed to bring it down to $1100 if I get it all together. Separate would be $660 for opti coat, $330 for opti guard and $220 for the wheels.

What are everyone's thoughts on that quote? He wouldn't go any lower than that, tried to get it for $1000 but he said no. With no other dealers to compete with I can't see why he would either.

I already have tint included in my order with the dealer at a price of $435. Brings the total cost to $1535 if I get it from the opti coat guy. Definitely seems like far better value going with the opti coat guy. Thoughts from everyone else though?

Haha yeh I don't think I will be going with them. Unless they somehow decided to bring their price down to $1500 or less for their whole package.

So you aren't going for the wheel protection Hybrid? You mentioned on WP just getting the exterior and doing the interior myself. What would you recommend for the interior and what is actually involved with it? I've never dealt with these protection style products before.

Never seen a decent dealer protection offer thus far. Quality and price wise.

Nope. No wheel protection. Also factor in that I'll be on Velgen wheels

Just regular maintenance will suffice. I think the factory leather is rather rubbish to begin with. Don't wanna spend another $400 - 500 protecting rubbish lol... Just an off the shelf Meguairs Leather Conditioner and Protection that's applied when needed.

Of course... my opinions/choices are fairly subjective. I'm sure there will be plenty who disagree. Maybe a few who agree

That is a decent price, ultimate detailing has a group buy going where they are charging $1100 for three layers of opticoat, wheel protection, hydrophobic carpets and interior protection.
