I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, iOS 13.3.1 and my Car won’t detect CarPlay 25% of the time and 5% of the time won’t even charge it. A soft reset will lead to it detecting Carplay. I’m using an Apple cable and tried another with the same result and carplay is enabled on the phone. Does anyone else have the problem?

I had that problem. The way I got around it is that I unlock my phone when I first connect it. It has worked every time after that.

As far as not charging, sorry I don't know why.

I would double check the cable... if it's not from Apple, it might not work. If it is from Apple, test it in a computer and see if the computer sees it and charges it...

I was initially thinking this is just a software issue, but since nobody has this problem, it makes me think it’s a hardware problem.

I tried 2 apple cables and 2 different iPhones with the same outcome: 25% of the time it won’t see The carplay but it will see the phone then if you do a soft reset, it’ll see carplay.

Do you have another device? Just wondering if it's the car/hub or on the device end :)
Yes. Over the weekend I tried it with my dad’s iPhone 8 and it did the exact same thing as my
iPhone 11 Pro Max. It won’t see Carplay until you
Do a soft reset.

Certainly sounds like the vehicle side (whether that's the port/hub, headunit, OS/version, etc.) I see you show an S4 in your profile, but I'm assuming since you're posting here, this is in the context of a Mustang, is it a factory Sync 3? 18, 19, 20?

It’s a Sync 3 with Sync 3.4. 2020 Mustang GT PP1.

Go to Settings-Face ID & Passcode, scroll to the bottom to the "Allow Access when Locked" section and make sure USB Accessories is enabled.

Not Mustang, but Sync 3 related. My wife has a 2018 edge titanium AWD with sync 3, no nav.. She cant update sync via usb, get carplay to launch or clear any old user/ phone data even after a master reset, throws INSTL-ERR12 when trying to update. Called the dealer and they advised they either need to do a full software reset using their ford scan tools, or possible a bad APIM unit that will have to be replaced. Taking it in next week for them to do the initial diag, I'll update after the visit. FWIW the usb update that ford gave me was the exact same update that they gave me for my 2018 Eco premium with Sync 3, and it worked fine.

My CarPlay also occasionally does not recognize my phone. If I turn car off and back on it usually fixes it. I also have iPhone 11 Pro for reference.

Having a similar problem on our 17 GT. Service replaced cable harness and problem got worse. Now they want to change the APIM. I’ll let you know how that goes.

I have the exact same issue as the OP with a 2020 Synch 3 with software 3.4.

Tried a variety of cables, no difference. Curious as to any resolution from anyone.
