Pop when coming from a stop

Well I guess this is the first real issue I've had with the car. I noticed starting Saturday when I start moving from a stop, there is a metallic pop sound coming from the rear. It can be easily duplicated when going in first moving forward, then going to reverse and moving backwards, it pops every time you start engaging the clutch, just 1 pop. It doesn't take any throttle application for this to happen, you can just let the clutch out a little and it'll pop once the tires start moving. It doesn't seem to pop over bumps, going up driveways, etc, so I don't think it's suspension or subframe related. I think something is loose in the driveline - 2 piece driveshaft, rear diff, axle shafts, wheel bearings? I didn't notice play in the bearings when trying to move the tire 12 and 6, 3 and 9. It's also not brake pad slap and I tried moving with the e-brake applied slightly, still popped so it's not the pads. My main subframe bolts are all tight, and the exhaust doesn't make any noise when shaking or hitting it (I figured I would check all the areas I tinkered with). Hopefully this is warranty covered...

I have the car scheduled to go in for service tomorrow for this, but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience on this. I know, can't really tell without looking at it, but maybe someone had an identical issue? I'll keep everyone posted once the dealer figures it out too.

Seems like you and I have the same issue, except mine occurs only when the undercarriage gets wet when it rains. I just did the same thing too in my driveway to replicate the sound. Just stupid it doesn't happen when it's dry out.

Just the brake calipers getting a bit lose, so whenever you change direction is kinda hits the constraint on the other side and makes that noise. I've had it forever and the dealer refuses to fix it for me, says it's normal...

I have it on all 4 wheels LOL

Find a new dealer, they should fix it. That's rather unacceptable. If the calipers are getting loose, that's a safety hazard. If the brake pads are loose because of poor shims, that shouldn't happen within 3yr/36K.

I don't think mine are brake related though. The sound comes from the back, and it does it even when trying to move with the E-brake slightly applied. Any car I've seen with pad slap would not make noise if trying to move with the brake applied.

My noise sounds pretty much exactly like a bad CV axle pop sound. But it only does the noise when the direction of driveline rotation changes and torque is initially applied, or from a dead stop, probably because the driveline has that slack and it pops when the rotation tightens it up...so to speak.

No word from the dealer yet. They had it all day yesterday and never looked at it. At least I have a loaner vehicle.

I have the car back, fixed. It turns out when they dropped the subframe about 10,000km ago to fix the stripped subframe bolt which happened when installing the IRS bushings, the tech didn't torque the cv axles on the rear axle shafts, and apparently didn't lube them properly/at all. They've been torqued to spec and lubed, so everything seems good now.

Good to hear, I just dropped mine off for a water leak today in the trunk. Going to try greasing them when I get the car back. I have them marked to see if they loosened up over time.
