So, I noticed on the passenger side, right below the door, where the plastic meets the floor - there's this awful, ugly gap? Is everyone else's like this? The driver's side seems fine, however. I don't understand why that gap exists - other than for the floor mat to fit in. Yet, most other cars have floor mats and don't have an ugly gap like that? Note that I pulled the floor mat back slightly to take this photo, but even when it's under there, it doesn't look well finished.

For comparison purposes, here's what my other car (2010 Hyundai Sonata) looks like:

As you can see, the carpeting meets the plastic door trim very neatly. And this car cost much less than the Mustang did.

It's hard to say. I'm nowhere near my car right now to get a look, but I've removed the mats to vacuum and I would have noticed that crap. Without seeing my car, maybe that section sticking out should be tucked away somewhere.

I just went across the property to the garage to take a look. Mine is tighter to the carpet on both sides without that nasty gap where it's pulling away from the carpet.

This isn't normal. It looks like the trim pieces need to be pushed down/in and snapped back into place. The trim piece that runs the length of the door has to be pulled off in order to get to the rear speakers (believe it or not). It may be that the people who installed your stereo didn't snap the trim pieces back in properly. There's several plastic tabs that secure the runner trim piece. I suggest you try to push them back in, but make sure they are lined up properly otherwise you can break the plastic tabs that snap in it place.

Thanks for the help. I knew it couldnt have been that way from the factory. The car audio people didn't touch the rear speakers, though, only the front ones. They did install a sub in the trunk though.

They probably pulled it off to run the power back to the sub. I assume it wasn't like that before the stereo install, right?

Looks like a case of hacker aftermarket installers. I bought a used mustang that had an aftermarket alarm system installed behind the driver-side kick panel. When the bozos pulled the panel off they broke the hood latch release. When I went to replace the cable assembly I noticed that they had also snapped off a couple of the plastic tabs and another was just bent back instead of being properly inserted in the hole where it went. Not sure why the owner didn't raise hell but maybe they weren't the type to ever look under the hood and had all maintenance done by others.
I would alert the management of the installing shop and have them make it right.

I had the same issue too, I got the driver's side replaced a few months ago and I'm getting the passenger side fixed today.
