Hopefully I can reciprocate this group something I learned this afternoon. There is a website of the NICB or National Insurance Crime Bureau. You can do a VIN check on a car and if it's in their database, you can find out if it was ever stolen or destroyed. The link is:
https://www.nicb.org/vincheck and it is involved with law enforcement. It's a way to know if a car you are looking at was ever stolen or totaled and rebuilt. It isn't complete I'm sure but they go back to 1920 in some cases. Unfortunately I found out that my Dark Blue 2012 Mustang V6 coupe that I bought new and sold in 2014 was totaled in 2018. As some may know, it often can total a car with insurance if even just the air bags go off if the car is old enough. This website could be a good addition to investigation of any car you are looking for as I am to find out what the current owner may not even know. I hope this is helpful to you.
Again, I appreciate all the inputs and keep em coming. I am taking notes and putting it all together to study. You guys have sent me back to school. LOL.
All my best
