Poll: Parking your car for the winter.

My insurance is up on the 29th so she'll be living in the garage after that. We have been having a bit of an extended summer, but I don't want to push my luck. Chances are, I'll go insure it for another 3 months and it'll snow on October 2nd. Not gonna risk it!

Last year I parked the car in the garage from December through March. I usually start the car once a week and let it run for 20 minutes or so to circulate fluids and keep the battery charged up. Expecting to do the same this winter...

Right before first snowfall is when it gets parked in the garage. After the first rainfall in the spring is when it comes back out.

It will be weather dependent for me. Temps in my area go up and down, so if the high is under 40 F; no drive. If the low is under 45 F with precipitation, no drive.

I have a 2003 BMW with no heater, so every day a have to drive it, it really sucks

I've got a solution for those who have to park it for the winter...road trip down to my house and park it my garage. I'll drive and maintain it until you pick it up in the spring. I won't even charge that much! ;)

When I lived in NJ, I would park my car for the winter the first time
they put salt on the road, then bring it out after first spring rain.

I've been working on storing mine the last few nights actually. Should be all packed away by this weekend. I normally go until mid November but my tires all bald and I'm getting new wheels in March. Saw no point in paying $1600 just for an extra few weeks this year to turn around and spend the money again in spring.

Agreed! But the new wheels in March will make it 100% worth it (VFF-103s!). Also doing a Trans and rear different flush along with a few steeda underbody mods to keep myself sane. Living through this forum also makes the cold months easier!

My summer tires have lasted longer than the doomsday prophets on here predicted, so I'll put mine under the carport with a good cover probably in late November. Our weather here is very unpredictable in the winter. We've had winters where it was over 60 degrees more than it was under 40, and the past two winters have been horribly cold (by southeast standards) and school has been cancelled 20+ days.

I figure it'll probably fall to weekend and drop day duty by the end of october purely because of morning temperatures vs summer tires. Even this morning it was 58 at 9am. My Tacoma will start seeing more and more duty soon. It's had a nice 1,100 mile April-September this year while the mustang is over 9k in the same time span. It'll just make me appreciate the stang when spring kicks in.

I don't have a garage so I'm just gonna try to put a heavy cover on it under the carport and hope for the best.

My Mustang is not my daily driver, but once we get the first snowfall, she's done for the season. Usually lasts 4 months. :tsk: :(

As I'm on summer rubber, I schedule winterization at the dealer for the end of October - oil change, bring tires up to max pressure, then I put some fuel additive in, and park it over a plastic sheet on foam squares in my unheated garage with a Battery Tender connected. There it sits for 5-6 months until salt has been rinsed off the roads by the first big spring rain. I just bought a 2016 Focus for my winter car. I know the Mustang can be driven all winter with winter tires, I just don't want to have to deal with all the salt and sand and crap that destroys a nice car inside and out. Plus, I average 6' snow per year here, so it's no trivial matter.
