There is a reason 455 HP is winning the poll, Ford has already gave
us a hint what the 2018 HP number will be:

I see both 470 & 455

Heavens forbid this could insinuate 470 hp and 455 lb/ft torque :D

Look at this math....

2014 GT 420 hp stock + procal 16hp = 436hp

- 1hp from pro cal = 435

2015 GT 435 hp stock + power pack II 21 hp = 456 hp

- 1hp from power pack 2 = 455

2018 GT 455 hp stock

470 HP or More ....

Start hp =435
Compression from 11 to 12 gives 2% more power ie 444 hp
Red line from 7000 to 7400 boosts 444 to 469.3 hp

470 looks likely just on the maths
I agree completely with you but others in this forum seem to know more than us.
I was a automotive parts guy for 15 years, 3 of those in Hi-Performance shop.
I helped guys pick their parts to get the most out of their engines. A 20 HP
bump with all the major changes (New 5.0 Coyote engine only carryover is the crank) Direct Port & Port Injection plus a bump in compression - Does Not Make any sense - If anything the 455 number represents Torque !!

Ford is sucking all you guys into believing its 455 HP. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS is putting out 455 HP already. You really Think Ford is sitting pat with 455 for the New 2018 Ford Mustang GT? to think so !

You make a good point, but if you go by history, there is no way the 2018 will have a increase of 35 HP (8 %). Maybe the Mach 1 or GT 500 will have 470 HP not the entry level Stangs

455 Decoy Number

For a world car they are competing with turbocharged engines. This new engine should easily get 470 hp with just the compression ratio and red line alone.

I agree with MrWolf, the 470 Easter egg was hiding in plain sight. We were all distracted by the giant 455 (can't be torque surely, way too high?) which might be just a decoy dummy to help '17 sales.
I am feeling thats the case, just to help clear all all the 2017 inventory ;)

Why not, scat pack challengers have 485 and they can be had in the mid to high 30's.

A gt with 470+ is totally reasonable and doable.

You guys think the 455 could be torque at 4700 RPM? The only thing that makes my head spin is that's over 90 torque per liter.
Thank you! I've said it myself a couple times. There is no way this engine will make 455 tq.

That will set the WORLD N/A GASOLINE RECORD for specific torque/L. Come on guys.

I just don't see the 470. saw the 1964.5 but no 470.

All this 470 talk has got me pretty geeked about my future ride. Anything over 455 is gravy to me.

470 is on the Tacho....have a look.

Does that mean its......... 4,700 Hp ? (lol)

BTW: Why would Ford go to the trouble of completely redesign the engine - (exc the Crankshaft) including significantly increasing Comp Ratio 11 to 12:1 and the redline - for a pathetic 20-40hp gain ? That must be an absurdly non-viable ROI.
