I truly enjoy driving high end true performance Vehicles with Standard Transmissions both to and from the Manheim Auto Auctions as well as through the Sale Block. That said, for my daily "drive" a don`t want to get knee fatigue in stop and go traffic every day of my commuting life. If you live in the "burbs" or in a rural area with little traffic, fine. To repeat the shifting process a hundred times driving a mile or two is not for everybody, sorry.

Cant say Manual without MAN! stick all the way...waaaay more fun :headbang:

your young and you will feel ALOT more gratification from firing off your own shifts. There is nothing else in driving you can do that feels more satisfying other than getting your D sucked. Thats a verifiable fact.

Treat it with respect and you will never have a problem with it. Dont worry about traffic either, I drive in Baltimore city errday and its not bad. Plus with a Mustang there is much less shifting to do since you have power in every gear at most any RPM. Ford makes great manuals, especially this new wave of global cars. I have no reason to believe the MT82 is tough considering the last gen was arguably decent and this model has had some working over for better shift feel. Clutch has been reported to be relatively light in this 'stang too (gone are the days of leg breaking clutch pedals). I had no problem with the last gen, or with any other Ford stick I have ever owned/driven.

If you do get Auto, no worries. Your not a girl or a sissy, thats a load of BS. Thats like saying your not a man unless you get the V8. But I will say that pulling plastic paddles will NEVER be as satisfying as rowing for yourself. You also cant rev high and dump the clutch in an auto :) (Just save this for very rare occasions...its abusive as much as it is fun)

dont make this a super technical argument in your decision because either is a good choice in this car and it boils down to how much of an emotional connection you want to make. This is a very personal, distinct, and special car to be driving as opposed to a sedan or econobox, so go stick. You WANT to feel more involvement and make the decisions

So, I am going in on Monday to place my order and am still not sure whether to go auto or manual. Yes, I'd rather drive a manual, but do see some benefits to the auto. Honestly, I think I'd be happy with either - I am fairly laid back that way. :)

This aside, outside of a post or 2 on the first page of this thread there has not been much (any?) mention of the mt-82 shifting issues from previous years.

I've read some state there never really was an issue or that it was limited to a few earlier year tranny's. However, there is a 7,000+ post poll thread on allfordmustangs that would indicate otherwise. With many people having issues. And as recently as yesterday with 2014 model year.

Is no one concerned about shifting issues rearing in their brand new manual 2015?

I know the shifter linkage has been updated, and I have read one (and only one) article that talks about "internal changes to reduce synchronizer drag and improve precision and gate-position feedback."

If the latter is true and there have been internal changes, that is encouraging (and may give credence to the claims there actually is an issue). But if true, I wonder why it hasn't been reported more (like the updated linkage has been).

Thoughts?

"correct hill-start! Got it! lets see what its got at the track

Clutch close to the friction point. CHECK
Start taking off - HERE WE GO!
accelerator down, clutch up, I have no idea why the hell I have the hand brake up but down it goes in a coordinated motion aaaaaand........"

"I should of gone auto!"
LOL yes that dude should probably go auto... lol

I still think if you're a competent driver a proper hill-start is no big deal.

Laziness and unwilling to learn something different is the reason manual is on its way out. I would say almost 100% of kids these days learn to drive on an automatic and are scared shitless to learn to drive a manual. I have already seen a ton of posts on this forum of people that want manuals but are scared to death to actually attempt to drive one.

Ha, learning to drive a manual transmission with a Mustang's HP probably isn't the best idea. I'm going to teach my son to drive manual when his '70 Bug is done being worked on.

I can drive a manual and have greatly enjoyed driving manuals, but I prefer to drive an automatic, explain that.

And furthermore when I order my Mustang it will be with an automatic, go ahead and try and explain that one too.

I will be waiting for your deep and insightful comments

Driving an automatic is boring and lacks the feel of having control. Is it really that much fun for you to just mash a pedal? It takes almost all the skill out of driving as anyone can just mash a pedal...

I would guess you like driving an automatic more because you don't have to do any work to drive one.

I hope you didn't hurt yourself rubbing the brain cells together to come up with that. Despite the great thought and effort you put into generating that I hate to inform you that you've missed the mark.
I prefer an automatic because I'm a drag racer and I value consistency. In the real world an automatic is faster in almost every race application than a manual.

But most of all I prefer to drive a automatic because that is what I like, not because I am lazy or lack skill.

In DC, you're not allowed to enjoy driving a car due to so much traffic and idiots who don't know where the f*** their going (that includes metrobuses, taxis and pizza boys). So, driving a manual hurts the bee's knees!

1320, you're getting pretty defensive there. It's all good, he just doesn't agree with you.

It is OK folks.. No need to bicker over auto or manual. People have their own preferences depending on their needs and circumstances. You can't expect everyone to think alike. After all, we're all different. In the end, Auto or Manual, it is still a Mustang and is going to be one heck of a car. What matters is if you are happy with your choice ! :)

Tell me why on shows like Street Outlaws, they use manuals? Why did Ford Racing use manuals when showing those 10 and 11 second times with the 2015 recently?

Does it take skill to drive an automatic when drag racing? Why are you so defensive? I don't really care what you like, I just stated my opinion. I guess other peoples opinions aren't what you like to hear.

I have two sons. The older has a 94 Mustang GT that he bought when he was 18. We have had it apart in my garage more times than I can count. Engine, suspension, brakes, interior, paint, you name it. He thinks manual transmissions are just great. The younger son didn't get that gene. He is all AT, all the time. I tried to teach him in my 88 GT, but it bucked and snorted and roared and spun the wheels and died. That was the end of that for him.
