Is this a thing? Doesn't seem like dip would hold up to the heat worth a crap.
:lol::lol: the exhaust will melt the plasti dip

no... If you are looking for matte black, make sure everything is masked off well and use black grill paint or engine enamel.

Yeah, I was thinking that but didn't want it to be so permanent. I've seen people use pasti dip, but don't know how it would hold up.

Try it. At worst you will just be scraping melted rubber off the tips with a solvent to melt away the dip. It wont permanently damage anything even if it melts.

If you google it plenty of people have dipped their exhaust tips. The tips should NOT get that hot; this is not like dipping the headers something with direct exposure to hot engine gases.

Of course tip temp will vary with ambient and which exhaust system (or OEM). There are mustang guys on the S197 with dipped tipped with a few setups like Roush and it held up fine.

Dip handles up to about 315 degrees they say. I highly doubt your tips get that hot unless you are talking extended track driving pushing it hard

It will hold up fine. The tips actually don't get that hot.

I've dipped my calipers a few months back and it's been just fine. Way more heat on the brakes than the exhaust tips.

i personally wouldnt dip calipers with moving parts. Exhaust tips no harm. It will just melt if anything on a non-moving part. Not a huge loss.

Yes i plastidiped my roush tips on my 2012, lasted about 2 years before i decide to peel it back off. Looked great up until the day i peeled it. People like to trash talk things without any personal knowledge of the subject.

It didn't melt at all on the roush tips. They didn't get very hot since double walled.

These pictures after about 20k miles on the DIP.
