Hi: i have been reading about the issues Ford is having with this technology, in the F150. I have read the Ford specs on the 2019 GT and it seems to infer this technology is not used in the 2019 GT, only the Bullet and GT 350. Am I correct that it was not used in my car (GT) and if it was, have any of you had issues with the engine? Many thanks for any input you can provide.

All coyotes have it at this point. There's no real problem with it. It's just iron sprayed on in a very accurate way and with consistent thickness (which is thinner than a traditional sleeve). From what I understand there aren't any actual problems with it, other than it can be a little trickier to break in due to its higher hardness.

I read through that and the only thing I can see that's Vanadium Nitride copper is their special coating for rings and skirts, unless I missed something?

I also thought the improved hardness factor is due to how consistent the layering/interleaving is. Iron/steel in nature almost never has this type of consistency and thus tends to be softer, even when machined. Turning it to a molten plasma changes the material's properties both during and after application.

Ultimately though I'm just working off stuff I have read in the past, I don't claim to be an expert on the stuff or anything.

Me either, once in awhile I’ll find good SAE tech or white papers.
If I could get my hands on a small piece of the coated cylinder (dime or nickel in size) I have access to a Niton XRF nondestructive tester and we’d all know the metallurgical composition of Fords PTWA.

Are these actual documented cases or forum dialogue ?
Neither. Source is dialogue with a well informed owner of a F150 who has joined a class action suit to get the issue fixed. Personally I have not researched it other than to try and find out if my engine has it.

After your post I’ll need to walk back my thoughts on Vanadium Nitride Copper cylinder coatings.
This Nanocrystalline Iron with FeO (ceramic) is a hybrid. This ain’t our Grandfather’s Iron Ore !

I took the reference to PTWA as an iron deposit coating literally as pig iron and not as a Iron Ore hybrid matrix.
I’ve learned something, thanks.
