And in London they use their ancestral machetes. I don't know about you but I don't walk around town with my scimitar on my hip. Probably should though. Everyone should have a big ass sword on their person. Makes everyone quite civil.

Our gun laws are not just about firearms. Forbidden in public are e.g. knives with a fixed blade longer than 12 cm (5"), and the political discussion is currently underway whether this is enough.
Crimes involving knives are mainly an issue at larger train stations among a certain clientele (among themselves).

Fortunately, you only have to keep your distance from someone with a knife/machete.

Ah, so what’s the effective safe distance from a perp with a knife? Answer that question for every person of every age group please. Make sure you take into account physical abilities, situational awareness, perception, and reflexes.

Or, instead of running, you can face the threat with an equalizer that has a much greater chance of preventing great bodily injury or death, and you don’t have to run out breath before you die.

I can totally understand that.
In the US anyone can have a gun, here it's not so easy, even for the bad guys.

Sure pepper spray "would be enough" but the guy who did these deserves to be filled with holes, not itchy eyes. Violent criminals should be treated just like a rabid animal- put down

Actually it isn't. As I recall weve had at least one lady killed on our Rails to Trails system in FFX county who despite deploying spray was still subdued, raped and killed.

I guess she didn't know how to use her weapon. Or it didn't have the level of disuasion Mr guns-not-needed ascribe to the magic paper sauce.

There was a lady here that got mauled by a pack of dogs (that were all "owned" by a local homeless camp) as she was jogging on a public path. She had pepper spray and it didn't even slow them down. She is still in a drug enduced coma after several months because her injuries are so severe.

Glad to hear that this history is now compulsory. As it was not into the mid 90's. All German citizens had little to no understanding of this. The former East German Nation had none.

Last item before I too back out. I've travelled extensively, throughout the world both as a private citizen and the US Military. We tend to look at things from our internal paradigm shaped by the country we come from, it's education and political systems. Germany and the rest of the world have their faults just like the USA..

Before I start worrying about knifeman, I have to buy a car other than the Mustang.
I also accept the fact that my life will end at some point and I don't believe that anything will change that.

The best I can imagine is the 50s and 60s, when all the old Nazis were still in office.
For East Germans who went to school before reunification, you might be right.
That's why it's so easy for them to vote for right-wing parties

Your chances of dying in a car accident are also higher than being shot by someone in the US. I’ve never been shot at (in the US) but I’ve been in a few auto accidents (not all my fault )
